There were one or two people with WB inside info on other threads. They said it was about Prince only delivering the 9 song-album.

Apparently he does now and then answer questions of serious fans on Twitter,
so you could try to get him to elaborate on this fact.

If any fact was established in one of the other threads (something Militant says is not the case), then there is no need to create a dupe thread.

The real reason was also because AOA and PLEC did't sell a shit, with Prince not involved n the promotion.

Some insiders said there were big plans for PURPLE RAIN 2014. But Prince wanted first to release AOA and PLEC, which was a huge commercial mistake. WB is responsible for being so dumb.

When they saw that Prince didn't want to support neither AOA, neither PLEC ELEC, neither PR 2014, they scrapped it.

You'd think WB was so dumb they didn't clarify in the contract they wanted bonus material for the album ? Hard to believe. If WB wanted to, they could have put the long version of the B faces.

By the way, from the start, the deal didn't include the movie, live and music videos, so there was obviously some licensing rights problems here.

This is a good point. A major label signing a deal with a (relatively) big star with whom they had serious contractual issues in the past without specifying in detail what the deal entails sounds highly unlikely.

I've no idea what's going on, but I can't imagine that details regarding extra material as well as censoring of lyrics haven't been specified in the deal regarding the PR remaster.

I personally couldn't care less about just the remaster. I'm only interested in good quality versions of the good PR stuff from the vault circulating the web. Preferably on vinyl.

Prince said that it would be just the remastered album, no bonus stuff in an interview last year. It was an online interview, (or this year actually), i'm always surprised no one posts that part of the interview.

There is no hearsay, the remastered PR was just the album, nothing more. He said so himself. I'm sure some kind soul will go find the quote, it's on here somewhere.

He's working on a rerelease of the epic "Purple Rain" album for its 30th anniversary, but when asked if he's excited about it, he flatly says no.

Required? No. But it's a nice carrot to dangle to get people to double dip. Not everyone cares that their current CD sounds like doo-doo. So, a few added extras can't hurt.

And it's not like dude doesn't have loads of extras to provide.

If fans are gonna spend money on an album that they already own,they should get bonus material...to make it worthwhile.
