Case of U - 2 versions?

I have somehow lost track of my copy of Case of U from One Nite Alone, and now only have the version from the Joni Mitchell tribute album. Are these two versions identical?

.

Cause I seem to remember it not starting with the same lyrics. Maybe something is wrong with my memory of a song that I love and have heard countless times, especially years ago. But I don't recall it starting with the lyrics "I'm a lonely painter".

.

Am I wrong? Or are there two versions out there?

Yes they are the same track, the one on the tribute album is an edit http://www.princevault.co..._Case_Of_U

The difference is slight, just that little piano coda at the end, a matter of a few seconds.

No difference lyrically.

Prince's version omits the first verse of the original

All we need is a few more people and then you can each post a fact from the PV page.

Great idea, I'll keep the ball rolling:

Inital recording took place at Paisley Park Studios in Chanhassan, MN, USA in the spring of 2001.

I'm sorry DigitalGardenre--I couldn't resist. But while it's true that all the information we've given is on the Princevault page, what's wrong with just answering the question, rather than referring the questioner somewhere else? You didn't have to look it up, did you (except to give the link)? I didn't either. So why not just share the information you actually know as information you actually know, instead of referring to Princevault (which I use almost daily and am very thankful for)? Or, maybe, do both--irreverence wanted to know about lyrics, so I thought I'd make that issue clear--even without having to read the Princevault entry. But if you hadn't pointed that direction, I probably would have.

To answer your two identical questions...

As you can see from my first post in this thread, I did answer the question. I then provided a link to the PV page for further information in the hope that the OP could maybe find said site useful in the future.

Not simple enough?

Stop fighting, you guys, I said I was happy with your replies. It's all good.

PrinceVault can give me the Wikipedia treatment, orgers can sometimes give me some of what the songs feel like, and what makes the edit different from the original etc.

Okay. Yes, they were the same question. You got me there. And it was probably a bit misplaced to bother you about it anyway, since I was really annoyed with people who routinely answer questions by pointing somewhere else without giving a simple answer. I might have just been in a rotten mood at the time. Sorry.

The only reason I said anything after your first post was that I wanted to address the specific issue of whether there was a lyrical difference. It's possible that an "edit" could have meant an edit that involved a lyrical, not just musical, difference. So I just said that it didn't, in this case.
