the 10 best tracks on Crystal Ball

I often see the discussion on which are the best tracks on Emancipation. I am curious about what people think are the best tracks on Crystal Ball. Apologies if this has been done before.

Anyway for me:

1. Crucial

2. Interactive

3. Last Heart

4. The Ride

5. Days of Wild

6. Dream Factory

7. Crystal Ball

8. Love Sign

9. She Gave Her Angels

10. Ripopgodizippa

About Good Love. I love Good Love, and Moviestar too. But I'm not in love with the Crystal Ball versions of those songs.

Well, for me is easy......

- Crystal Ball

- Dream Factory

- Moviestar

- Crucial

- An Honest Man

- Sexual Suicide

- Good Love

- Last Heart

- Make Your Mama Happy

Add "18 and Over" or "Hide The Bone" to reach 10.

I agree with you. They are edited, and not in a strong way.

Anyway, even if not full versions, the two tunes are better than the rest.

And this apply also to "Crucial".

I'm absolutely in love with the two full lenght versions and every time I listen to the CB version I cringe when it is coming to the end with the atrocious fading into AHM.... but what a masterpiece!

Crystal Ball
Hide the Bone
Interactive
Da Bang
Calhoun Square
What's My Name
Crucial
Cloreen Bacon Skin
Days of Wild
She Gave Her Angels
(I like the Dream Factory tracks too, but I just think they don't work within the context of this compilation. If he had included a Dream Factory CD, it would have been awesome!)

Moviestar... was one of my favorite outtake in Chocolat Box. But when I hear the CB version... well, I loved the camillesque version of the bootleg and I can not feel the same love for the slower original version. My fault.

Good Love IMHO is in a wrong place in tracklist. After the long long cloreen b. skin, another pattern of drums... the long cloreen eats good love.

I didn't forget it, but you can only have 10 tracks in a top 10. So I'll put it # 1 in my Favourite Tracks on the Bright Lights Big City Soundtrack! wink

"Cloreen Baconskin" to me is a waste of time.

Maybe 5 minutes to include in the collection something original and revelating, but 13 minutes and over is something I can't go through.

On a side note, I take note that we're talking of "the best 10 tracks on Crystal Ball".

I don't think the quality of a track can change according to where it is put on the tracklist.

I agree with you and others that the tracklist is a mess, but the quality of a "Good Love" in my book don't suffer being placed after the tour-de-force "Cloreen".

Completely agree, utter waste of space. Something to listen to once as a curiosity on a bootleg maybe, but not on a proper release.

Any list that doesn't START with Crystal Ball is automatically discredited. So....what OTHER criteria should we suggest....

Strangely, that is one of the tracks I have lstened to the most on the album. I appreciate him putting a true bootleg type track on his fake "bootleg".

Well, I think Cloreen is a great track for a prince lover, but it kills the other tracks on cd. But I love it.

It is true what you said about the "best 10". Buy I usually listen the tracks follwing the Prince tracklist. So the good love appeal is less strong whe I hear it.

(btw, I forgot, my 11 track is Sexual Suicide).

You know, for a long time I thought the same about the song Crystal Ball. Sometimes, I still do.

With that said, this is a good thread. Made me go dig out (literally, dig out) my copy of this last night to play "Da Bang" since I didn't recall it at all yet it got so many props in this thread. My 1st thought- "how did I miss this one?!?!?" Yes, that song truly bangs- pun intended.

From there, I rediscovered disc 2. Didn't care for too many songs on it initially, but there wasn't much that I didn't like when I listened again last night. Even though it was a cd of "bootlegs", the whole joint has aged nicely and is worth playing every now and then for some good music.

I have to agree. What made Crystal Ball so amazing was the song Crystal Ball itself. An incredible true collaboration between Prince and Clare Fischer of EPIC proportions. Per Nielsen said that Prince felt it was the most important thing he'd ever done.

.

No less than 9 of the tracks are irreplaceable must have's, including:

2. Movie Star

3. Dream Factory

4. Make Your Mama Happy

5. Cloreen Baconskin

6. Last Heart

7. Goodbye

8. Sexual Suicide

9. An Honest Man (though I much prefer the movie version)

.

And lots of very good others like 2morrow, Strays Of The World, Hide The Bone, What's My Name, etc.

.
I love Good Love (definuitely in the top 10 on the album) but it was already a released song on Bright Lights, Big City, so I have a hard time counting it as any major part of Crystal Ball.
