I would like to see him collaborate with those that he made his best songs and music with, like The Revolution, The Time, and others from the Minneapolis sound era. Prince always did things his way, and didn't try to conform to others and what they were doing, and I don't think he should now. I don't get him, he alienates those that he made the best music with and seems to hold a grudge, not wanting to work with them again, but is now willing to work with those half his age, most that know nothing about making good music, and seems to be trying to conform to their way of doing things. Even if he doesn't want to work with those that he used to work with, for whatever reason, there are still real musicians and entertainers from the era of music he came from that he could make real music with, good music! I remember a time when he didn't even want to work with "Michael Jackson" of all people, yet he's now willing to work with anyone that comes along, with not a half ounce of talent that Michael had! Just imagine what he could have done with someone like Michael Jackson! I just don't get him at all these days.

I know it won't happen unless there is an emotional break in Prince, but that would be the best

It would be cool to have him collaborate with legendary performers, backed by up and coming producers. The executive producer could be a middle-ground guy like Pharrell. Just for an EP. Light work for everyone involved, with the most pressure being on the exec.

I don't believe you have a grasp of the role of an Executive Producer - in most cases that's the person heading the project in financial terms or the person in charge of personel. There's really no need for him to have one outside of himself. If he's going to work with producers, I'd rather see him work with established producers than up-in-coming producers who really aren't on Prince's level musically. The difference is up-in-coming producers are just happy to be in the room with him and pinching themselves. An established producer *cough* Max Martin *cough* is going to bring professionalism into the mix (so to speak) and a track record of excellence

I don't think you're willing to simply accept what I'm saying. Prince is not a very good executive producer in my eyes. I would want his talent to be on display first and foremost. If he's working with other legends, then he should back up and let everyone do their job.

Even if he wrote most of the songs, the sequencing and other similar details should be left out of his hands. I said what I said for a reason. The exec would have a difficult job dealing with all of the big names, particularly the purple control freak.

Isn't it pretty obvious by now that his ego will only allow him to collaborate with those of inferior talent to himself, hence why the likes of Michael Jackson were always out of the question as possible collaborators.

What about Chaka Khan, Miles Davis, Mavis Staples, George Clinton, Bonnie Raitt, Larry Graham and Kate Bush then?

I'd rather he collaborate with the legends. Stevie Wonder, Carlos Santana, Jimmy Page, George Clinton, etc. Do Flea, Jack White and tom Morello count as "legends"?

Nothing came of his work with Miles Davis. George Clinton is a band leader with limited abilities as an instrumentalist/singer. Mavis and Chaka are singers who rely on the songwriting of others. And that leaves Kate Bush and all he did was butcher one of her songs.

He's far more comfortable collaborating with lesser artists who will allow him to have complete creative control over the finished product. Case in point: Tamar, Bria Valente, Josh Welton, 3rdeyegirl, Sheena Easton, Gwen Stefani, Tevin Campbell, Rita Ora, Curly Fryz, Poet 99, Liv Warfield, Morris Day, Tony M, Eve, Vanity, Madonna, Judith Hill, Carmen Electra, Mayte.

Be that as it may, I wouldn't put George, Miles etc in the "inferior talent" category. After all, the thread was about him wanting to collaborate, not about the end result! Putting two musical greats together doesn't always produce music that's twice as great.

FUNKYNESS

I think I am alone in not wanting to see Prince collaborate with anyone. If there must be developing acts, I prefer the way he did it for those productions that - however maligned - have stood the test of time and proven to have some lasting value to be considered classics (ie. Vanity 6, Sheila E, The Family, Madhouse).

Wow . . you brought up some great names I failed to mention

I definitely want to see Prince and Stevie Wonder work together in this lifetime.

I DEFINITELY want to see Prince and Carlos Santana work together . . like a whole album

If I had the money to do so I would have George Clinton, Bootsy Collins, Carlos Santana, Stevie Wonder and Max Martin locked in a studio together for 30 days

^ there's a theory behidn this madness

I wish he'd collaborate, duet, record, sing with, etc with someone as legendary as he is. Not someone who he has to take on the role of "big brother" who is trying to protect them from the evils of the music industry.

What the Fuss. Some other people I'd like to see him collaborate with: Fiona Apple, Elvis Costello, Bowie (A redo of "fashion" would be crazy good), Buckethead, Todd Rundgren, Bootsie, Angelo Moore. Maybe even Elton John with the right song. How about Robert Smith?

Wrong. I think that others are mentioning entertainers that they see as artists, those that have actual talent, like Prince. Face it, most of the entertainers today are not true artists, and without auto tune and auto music makers, wouldn't stand a chance.

Definitely other legends! Look how people still go on about his RRHOF 2004 collab! He should measure himself against other legends although IMHO I thought his guest appearance in 2010 in Paris with Stevie Wonder was a bit underwhelming. As mentioned in one of my recent posts, he should tour with an all star line-up of fellow multi-instrumentalists where they could each play on a different instrument with each song.
