If you merged AOA and HNR

AOA's accused of being too mellow while HitNRun's accused of being mindless party jams dreamed by Josh.

If you merged the albums, what would the track list be?

I'd love to make a long form feature length scifi music video for that double album! Like Phantom of the Paradise meets Sleeper meets Prince.

You knnow I liked AOA as a whole and I hate HitnRun as a whole, but mixed together, they could make one great album. Maybe I can come up with a track selection tomorrow.

Art Official HITnRUN

01 - Art Official Cage

This song is a stronger, more exciting album opener than Million $ Show. One of my proudest moments as the sequencer of this mix happens when the end of this track crossfades into...

02 - Ain't About 2 Stop
Not to toot my own horn too much, but when I heard the cold, robotic "Cage, cage, cage cage" over the top of the "Arabian industrial" intro of this song, my mind was blown and I had a huge grin on my face. It's just such a cool, natural transition!

03 - HARDROCKLOVER
Prince is known for having the third track on an album be a ballad, and while this song isn't a ballad in the traditional sense, it's close enough and provides a much more natural transition from track 2 than, say, Breakdown would.

04 - Clouds (including Mr. Nelson)
I've combined the two songs into one track, and it's awesome.

05 - 1000 X's and 0's

I've kept this song's flawless transition from Mr. Nelson intact.

06 - Breakfast Can Wait
Fits perfectly back-to-back with 1000 X's and 0's.

07 - Breakdown
08 - The Gold Standard

These both felt like natural fits here to me.

09 - Stare
This song is maybe too obvious/predictable to be placed back-to-back with The Gold Standard, but I couldn't help myself...it just works.

10 - Like A Mack
Keeps the funky vibe flowing.

11 - U Know
Curly Fryz rapping in the previous song --> Prince rapping in this one, makes sense to put it here.

12 - X's Face
Again, maybe too obvious of a pairing with U Know...but they are both sexy, dark, futuristic songs. I added a fade out so the song now ends smoothly.

13 - This Could B Us (including remix guitar solo)
This is the AOA track, with a portion of the HNR remix (the guitar solo to the end) blended in.

14 - What It Feels Like
15 - Time

The two Andy Allo tracks work together well here.

16 - FALLINLOVE2NITE
Probably the least satisfying/natural pairing in the sequence in my opinion, but I had nowhere else to put it.

17 - Million $ Show (without intro samples)
Thematically, it makes ZERO sense to put this song here. Musically however, it flows well with the previous track since they are both upbeat dance songs. I suppose the only (weak) justification I can provide for its spot in the sequence is that it "welcomes" the listener to the "party" that takes place in the two following tracks...

18 - Shut This Down
The original HNR transition remains intact as the party begins...

19 - FUNKNROLL
...the party continues! See where I'm going with this? lol

20 - June
The party's over as we come down from the high and back to reality. Breakdown would probably be a better thematic fit here, but I went with June because it's even MORE mellow and sad, thus making the "crash" that much more impactful.

21 - Way Back Home (including the affirmations)
Natural fit with June and a perfect, powerful way to end the sequence!

HitNRun
- same, I would keep it like it is.. great album and better than some of you guys think..

Plectrum - NOW this is a real crap fest, 2 good songs only in Wow & Anotherlove, I would delete the rest from history. Amen, and sorry to those who for some reason likes it.. wink

...and more important I'm against it too.

These are good idea, particularly to add "Mr.Nelson" to "Clouds" (as a track on his own it is really bad, but as an extended portion of the original tune can work).

Here's my tracklist (probably):

01) AOC

02) Clouds/Mr.Nelson

03) 1000 X's

04) The Breakdown

04) The Gold Standard

05) U Know

06) Breakfast Can Wait

07) This Could Be Us (AOA)

08) What It Feels Like

09) affirmation I & II

10) Way Back Home

11) HardRockLover

12) X's Face

13) June

14) Time

15) affirmation III

I will try it.

This sounds like more consideration in a single post than everyone involved in HitNRun combined gave to song transitions on that mess. THIS I would definitely listen to. Well done.

Seriously, mine would look something like this:

Made the cut sun:
- Art Official Cage
- Clouds
- Breakdown
- The Gold Standard
- U Know
- Hardrocklover
- Breakfast Can Wait (would work well after Hardrocklover, given that Hardrocklover is about a woman in a dream)
- What It Feels Like
- Time
- Affirmation I & II / Way Back Home / Affirmation III (edited into a single track)
- June
- 1000 Hugs & Kisses (this needs to be on there, but not sure where to put it. Might be a good closer)

Erased from existence doody:
- This Could B Us (original & remix)
- Funknroll (remix)
- Million Dollar Show
- Shut This Down
- Ain't About 2 Stop
- Like A Mack
- X's Face
- Mr. Nelson

.

Seems clear to me that given the abundance of attempts at fan-made tracklists, Prince's work now confounds his most faithful. He needs a Producer AND Editor.

Bluefish's tracklisting idea is exceptional!

With regards the CDs, Art Official Age and HitNRun flow really well together.

In fact, HitNRun should really have been called Art Offical Part Part 2. The covers nicely complement each other.

The only change I would make would be to take the talking woman off the Art Official Age tracks. Her accent, pronunciation and grammar are awful. Sadly, the tracks she talks over are great but she spoils them.

Come up with your own list, that's how it works. Exclude everything you want to exclude: the result will be your opinion of what should be on it. Maybe it will be the BEST, NIFTIEST sequencing, maybe you'll give other people ideas about how to go about it.

Having an informed opinion is all you can do.

The only thing that is clear from the abundance of fan-made tracklists are that alot of Prince fans should quit complaining and buy copies of Prince albums from Purple Rain to Prince since it was the last time they were not bitching and moaning about Prince's music!

It's fine if someone finds a sequence that includes all the songs.

It's also fine if most exclude the majority of HNR songs or AOA, just like to see ideas for creative sequencing.
