honestly..do Prince fans really give a shit what's in the vault after 1995??

let's keep real folks...musically, Prince music has not been all that great, declining sales, limited radio play, no videos and his continuing "dicking" of his fans... his albums since TGE have been for the most part weak...so any music that he's put in the vault since then I would only guess would be of the same caliber...

Prince needs to digitize his music in the vault...put in a cataloge and follow an Itunes method of getting to the fans and knock off this dumb shit Tidal...let his fans pick whatever he's recorded...fans get what they want and the purple prick gets paid. done and done.

I do. I'd have to be some kind of asshole to be a devout fan of someone I thought hasn't made great music in 20 years. I want the vault. All of it.

To be totally honest, I don't really care. The older I get, the less I care.

Who knows what else he recorded that might catch my fancy?

I guess people have to fashion some sense of their own perceived superiority out of something. Being a Prince snob just seems to be it for you.

I agree, the older I get the less I care.

Not that long ago, I would have been all over HIt 'n Run. I haven't even listened to it yet or looked for it when I was in Wal mart. So I'm not sure of my interest level right now on " the vault". Thinking low.

I wonder if the ship has sailed with other fans as well. There was a time when i would n't have bought it and wouldn't have thought twice about the price.

not sure what makes me a Prince snob...because my opinion is that the quality of his music has declined dramatically in that last 20 years...which is true... and most music that didnt make the cut was put in the vault...it would be in lesser quality and musical appeal...

You're like "let's keep it real folks", your post is predicted on your opinion that there can be nothing of value. So you're daring people to have the "bad taste" of being curious. Few people deny the quality of released music is lower, but that doesn't mean he did not shelve something interesting, for whatever reason. There's been lots of tracks that should have been released and were not historically, so I would not be so categorical personally, since you asked.

Sure, I mean Prince records 24/7 right? So songs aren't just delegated as being leftovers from certain albums. I mean, maybe Prince sat down and did "the planet earth sessions", more than likely he has just as many songs that are from the same time period that are totally different than anything on the planet earth album. Who knows what is in that vault?

I think a lot of stuff that didn't make the album from 1978-1989
was not because it was lesser quality (1978-1986) more specifically

but that he just had to much good stuff and not enough albums to put it out on

Did you really just say that your opinion is actually a true fact?

-

Like "jughead" (because it is pre-1995) is a better song than "3121" (because it is post 1995)?

Maybe. I like the b-sides from Around the World in a Day better than most of what is on the album.

I love the whole work. Can't get enough of that one.
That is the one album, I don't think we have specific 'outtakes' on

my unrequited love for that album is in that I don't know specific outtakes

I definitely want to hear it. For me, his output has been hit or miss in the last 20 years, but there has defintely been enough good stuff to maintain my interest.

This reminds me, who remembers the track called "The Divine" that Prince mentioned around the time of Lotusflower? I believe he said that it was too mind-blowing to ever release. Well, I'd to take the chance of having my mind blown!

I have to admit,I am mostly interested in the stuff that was recorded in the 80s...but I am sure there are some good gems recorded after 1995.

I hate when Prince says things like that biggrin I recall,in the late 90s,he mentioned a big album he was working on called The Dawn, but he implied that it was too much for the world to handle (or something to that effect).

Please,Prince....let US be the judge of that!! pray Stop holding back all of that 'amazing' music!! lol

I remember reading that interview. I thought it was something recently made around 2009

.

The Divine is an unreleased song recorded in 1996 at Paisley Park Studios, Chanhassen, MN, USA (during sessions for the Emancipation album). Eric Leeds added saxophone overdubs on 14 August, 1996, also at Paisley Park Studios. The song is believed to have been intended for Emancipation, but was not included on any known configurations. In a 2008 interview with USA Today (primarily designed to promote the 21 Nights book), Prince played the interviewer several tracks from his next album Lotusflow3r, and mentioned, but declined to play, a song called The Divine, described as "a song so "mind-blowing" he doubts he'll ever release it." It is not clear if this is the same track recorded in 1996 or not, however. The track remains unreleased-PrinceVault

Yes, I do indeed care, and I want to hear all of it. I can't tell you what specifically, in much the same way that I couldn't tell you what I wanted to hear in 1989 of the stuff that had been recorded up to that point--because I didn't know what it was, and hadn't heard much about it. Since the unreleased stuff from the earlier periods often differed quite a bit from the released material, and often didn't clearly indicate a difference in quality (to my ears), even if I didn't like what he was doing now (or any other time in the last 20 years), that wouldn't necessarily mean that everything in the vault for that period would be bad.

Maybe you should have just titled the thread "Honestly, I don't really give a shit what's in the vault after 1995." Because obviously Prince fans are going to have differing opinions. But I find it hard to believe that there are many of us what aren't at all interested in whether there's anything worthwhile in there over the past two decades.

yes... moving on now.

ps.

ok, HOW do you understand the artistic process? does it have an expiration date? can past accomplishments inspire the present, be surpassed, romanticized? if one has DONE "it" b4, can they (the same person) do "it" again or naw? are you proposing that YOUR "end date" (1995) be adapted universally in the purple kingdom?
