Is Letitgo his best song of the mid '90s?

I think it is, Prince embracing modern R&B-hip/hop but still sounding like Prince, dark and sensual, self-councious lyrics about his whole mid-'90s situation

---

whistle "Until now all I wanted to do is
Do do do what I do, and
Bang bang bang on the drummer
And love so-and-so" whistle

---

.

I don't think I can't say which one is the P's best 1 of the 90's but "Letitgo" is surely in my Top20.

Pentacle

'Nothing Compares 2 U' is from 1985, and 'Last Heart' from 1986.

That aside, 'Letitgo' is great.

My personal favorite from the mid '90s/the whole '90s is 'Hide The Bone'.

"Space" beats it out for me, off the same album and with a better maxi single, too.

Ugh. Letitgo is dreadful, the worst song on Come (and I'm including Orgasm in this). It's so dated and tacky. Horrible song.

JKOOLMUSIC

Its a cool tune but hardly the best. I think it was placed perfectly on Come, a downtempo funky singalong style closer.

But that's not a Prince original, so it doesn't count either. Letitgo talks about his issues with the music bizz and such, but that in itself doesn't make it a good song. His best mid 90s works imo are the songs where he talks about racial/social issues: Race, The Undertaker, Shy. In other words, where he's looking at the world at large, not just his own paisley world. eye Hate U is pretty good too.

It's not even the best off Come, which is not the best album of the 90s. So, I would say no.

Having said that, it's an OK song. It's a bit too mid-tempo for me though, I much prefer Loose! although I'm not claiming it's a better song.

Letitgo is a great song that I listen to often...just to remind myself to do just what it says. wink

I think I like it more now than I did then, but I didn't like it at all in 94, so from a 1 to 4 I guess (out of 10). So no, I think it's far from his best 90s song.

None of those were from the MID-90s, which, in my book would be 1993-96. Or 1993-95. I'm sorry, but all the songs U mentioned were before that, so they don't count. No matter how great they are.

Definately agree about Sweet Baby. One of the most beautiful songs he ever wrote with harmonies and vocal arrangements to die for.

I've always been more into the 90's stuff then the 80's stuff. For me, my top era's go 93-96, then 2002-2004 (the ONA band)

Okay, to each his own. The stripped down mid-90s NPG was pretty awesome! I saw them live in 95 and yeah, they rocked and they smoked and they fonked! Hard! But the 1980s were cool too!

We should say the last best era... biggrin

I loved Letitgo from the first time I heard it. It was out of date even then, but still. I doubt Prince could sing the chorus with that much air anymore. To me Billie Jack Bitch is the best Prince song of the mid 90's.
