Eddie Hazel and Prince

When discussing Prince's guitar influences, Jimi Hendrix and Carlos Santana are always mentioned but to me Eddie Hazel seems to have had an equally strong influence on Prince's playing and visual style. Has Prince mentioned this himself in any interviews?

I absolutely love Eddie Hazel, and it's obvious Prince has heard his oeuvre, but I've never heard anything that reminds me of the other. I would love Prince to have a go at Maggot brain though.

PS 'Can You Get To That' is being used in a uk tv advert at the moment. Nice to hear.

Check out Eddie on YouTube from a Houston show in 79 and you almost see P with his do-rag from the Rave era!

You ain't never lied!!!!!!!!!!!

I heard several notes/phrasings in that concert that I've heard Prince use.

I never knew Eddie Hazel's name, as far as Funkadelic but I'm glad you let me know. That guy was no joke!

Love you Eddie...where ever you are in the universe?!

On another note...listening to George Clinton give the introduction on Maggot Brain in a concert in Germany was entertaining. George is crazy as hell!

P.S. I see what P meant as far as his inspiration from these guys/George Clinton in that other thread about the handwritten letter from Prince to George.
