How Many Of You Thought You Would've Gotten Closer To Knowing Prince's True Thought's & Feelings By Now?

For Instance-

An Autobiography. - Sorry to make comparisons but, MJ put out his (Moonwalk) in 1988!

More 'Personal' 'Passionate' 'Important Feeling' Songs & Messages?,

A More 'Real Feeling' Connection with the fans..

Unlike the constant,

Diss the industry-

Give it another shot-

Diss the industry and fans-

Release stuff that many of the longtime fans have heard before & with more Passion.. (1978-88)

Tour (often without playing any of the new lesser known material)..

Pump up and promote people that truly are just Ok... When Artist's - (which i wont name).

Whom are 'Totally' deserving of his 'Pumping up' & 'Promoting' -

Are only mentioned 'condescendingly' from time to time..

The Whole 'Real Music By Real Musicians' Spiel when its convienient

ie: 'Schools in'!!!

Buy a concert ticket & get a free CD its Musicology time Y'all!

Then i recently read where Prince was asked who some of his favourite artists are?

Answer: Willow Smith & other's of that 'Modern/Youth female' ilk mixed in with an Obvious legend or two-

None of them *other than Joni Mitchell are BADASS musicians on Prince's Level.

Like - 3rd Eye Girl & Co.

In the 80's his interviews featured discussions about Santana, Hendrix, Miles Davis, Duke Ellington..

Whilst People like Miles Davis Praised Prince in his Interviews!

it all seems a tad bit odd to me?

I still respect the fact that Prince the MAN doesn't owe us anthing- He's given more than most!

I know what you're saying but if he did all the above he wouldn't be Prince and there's every chance we wouldn't be here.

I used to think Prince had some sort of mystique until I found that long interview he did with tavis smiley in the 90s then it went away it just sort of felt like just a normal guy. there was also a bit where tavis asked him a question before the break and his response was this purple riddle sort of thing and it just sort of felt like a fake 'intrestingness' or that time scary spice responded to his question about the truth and she said "theres many truths" and he was whilstling to ignore her and you just know he was thinking something JW related. i know prince the person isnt as interesting as i thought he was

I'm feeling a bit fammy™

Oh, that Scary Spice interview was legendary. Hilarious for all the wrong reasons.

I think he's expressed enough of his true thoughts and feelings in recent years to make some of us not really want to delve any deeper.

That was cringe-worthy, I felt embarrassed for him. They played some word association game and he was saying things like 'nimrod' and 'stauros' and she didn't have a clue what he was talking about (don't think anyone did apart from Larry).

TBH, I think Prince has always been extremely open about his thoughts and feelings. Usually too honest about them.

Some of his fans are actually more dogmatic, judgmental and snobby than he used to be.

His "deep" thoughts were never that deep, he's no intellectual but the way he went about expressing his ideas was compelling enough (see: Lovesexy, TRC, AOA).

"Real music by real musicians" was interpreted literally by so many while in fact he mixed electronic with electric and acoustic throughout his career after he got into drum programming. Part of his hardcore fans found this too ambivalent, so to this day anytime something is quite programmed, it's "oh what happened to "real music"?"

Since so many here feel (and are) so vastly superior in terms of education, why not use some of that sophistication to understand that, for instance, mentionning Willow Smith may not be a weighty pronouncement from his part or something meant to convey he puts her up there above legends? He just mentionned this young kid (along with other older performer), but of course some longtime fans have to be dogmatic and judge him harshly.

I met Prince a couple of years ago. About a year after 20ten. So, 2011, then razz. Anyway, he wasn't like what I thought he would be. I was expecting this real cool, untouchable kind of god-like creature. But he was just a normal guy. I honestly don't think there would be much behind the scenes stuff that would be interesting to know. Well, that was my impression after speaking to him for about 30 seconds before he left.smile

If he wrote an autobiography it would be all revisionist bullshit anyway. And half the chapters would be about how much he gets paid. (My phone wanted to change that to "laid," which I guess would be the other half of the chapters!)

We all love his music (or most if it), that's why we're here, but to be very honest, I don't give a shit about his true thoughts and feelings. I think he has said and done some very silly things and he speaks out of his ass at times.

I've said it before and I'll say it a million times more, he's a walking contradiction and says what he feels is the "sexy" thing to say at the time.

Honestly I've always felt that Prince is just a cool guy that likes a laugh. Never really been phased by his mystique shit. I think he has a great sense of humour, today in all honesty his persona very much reminds me of a character from a favourite childhood cartoon of mine. He was the typical adult that tries to be cool and carries a 'how to be hip' book around with him and reads phrases from it around the kids lol

In Denmark. My boyfriend brought me to the npg music and arts festival as a kind of belated birthday present. We got to go backstage to meet some of the acts and Prince kind of just breezed through. I remember he was with this absolutely stunning Mexican looking woman, don't know who she was. Anyway, I caught him before he left, told him I was a big fan, the usual stuff. He asked my name and what I did. I told him I was an aspiring singer, having been on the x factor. He asked the Mexican woman what the x factor was and she said it was like American idol. He asked if I was talented and I said "I think so". Then he said something like " then why go on the x factor?" Lol. His lady friend said something I didn't hear and with that he said goodnight and the two of them left.

Since I do not know him personally, I have never harbored such delusions.

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

What the hell, who really knows. He seems to me a very shy guy, and not someone who is very interested in let people make a insightful look at him. Kind of seems the same Bob Dylan's personality, in his interviews he acts alike, foolish and kind of nonsense answers, very shy etc.

I believe Prince puts all his love, all his pain, all his good, bad and ugly in his music. He doesnt have to be exciting in his day to day real life, he puts it all on stage and thats where he leaves it. I bet on his own time Prince is relatively shy and quiet, funny, bookish, and a bit restless.

Princes true thoughts and feelings are easy to know if you listen to that guitar. You know when he's bored, you know when he's tired, you know when he's not into it....he's always been pretty clear.

That's because he is just a normal guy, a normal guy with a God given talent for singing, playing instruments, making music, and entertaining others. He may be wealthier than some others, but he's human just like all of us. He doesn't have magical powers, and he's not some mysterious being, he's just a man, one of the many that God made in this world, no more, no less.

They're both Gemini, so that may have something to do with it. The difference is that Bob has done in-depth interviews where he really has something to say. (Don't think those press conferences in 1965/66 tell the whole story.)

Just like that interview in 1995 where he had that piece of cloth wrapped around his head and whispered all the answers in Mayte's ear.

I don't know about all the Gemini sign stuff. I am Virgo and I'm very shy. I don't like meeting people, talking much, or being around crowds. I'm kind of aloof, and likes privacy. These traits caused me to have a hard time in school when I was young, especially high school, I couldn't wait to get out of there. However, I don't know if being a Virgo had anything to do with that.

Well i think the same applies to all singers and musicians. Michael Jackson is a clear example, he became someone very different on stage, wild, fierce and outgoing but out of the stage he was painfully shy and quiet.
