Lost 2013 album- Rock N Roll Love Affair LP

So, with all the hub bub over Hit N Run and its questionable quality, i've gone back and cobbled together the various 2012-2013 songs that I downloaded and came up with what I think is a really enjoyable, solid, funky, and horn driven Prince album. Here's the order I used- try it out! I did add in "Stare" to finalize the project because even though it's a couple years removed, it fits in great with the rest.

"Rock n Roll Love Affair- The LP"

1.Rock n Roll Love Affair (iTunes single version)
2.Da Bourgeoisie
3.Screwdriver (iTunes single version)
4.Ain't Gonna Miss U When U're Gone
5.Groovy Potential
6.Stare
7.Boyfriend
8.Same Page Different Book
9.That Girl Thang
10.Extralovable (iTunes single version)

So, whatdya think? I quite like it.

i've tinkered with this project for a long time as well. this is the way i listen to these tracks:

01. Screwdriver

02. Rock n Roll Love Affair (original extended)

03. Same Page, Different Book

04. Baltimore

05. Extraloveable (reloaded)

06. Boyfriend

07. Ain't Gonna Miss U When Ur Gone
08. Groovy Potential

09. Da Bourgeoisie

10. That Girl Thang

it's not ideal and i'm still not sure that any of those tracks won't end up on a future album
still, but it's nice to listen to these tracks as a little album/playlist instead of probably just

digging up 1 or 2 of them and forgetting about the rest. there is some cohesion on it from

the horns being on many tracks. ideally there would be one or 2 more guitar-tracks in the

same vein ans Screwdriver, to go in the middle and toward the end, to balance things out.

and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

I did the same thing. It never turned out to be all that listenable. I gave up and folded the best of them into the 2014-2015 playlist.

There was supposedly one called "Funk" from around that time -- LF/MPLSound.

Supposedly the cover was on his shirt during some performances and there was a scrim of it behind him during his Tonight Show performance of it.

Because there is zero evidence of its existence - just speculation taken as fact here on the .org.

Speculation is that this was also the home for the Prince & The Band single too. Just with those two tracks on it, that's an album I really hope sees the light of day.

RIP sad

There is nothing to base that hope on though - someone suggested that the backdrop during the Leno "Turn Me Loose" performance looked like an album cover and it snowballed from there. Rumour, theory and speculation, nothing more.

In fact, the one bit of definitive word we have about any of the tracks that people have suggested might have been included on this "album" is the message from Prince's camp that accompanied the studio version of "Turn Me Loose" when it given to that radio station - that it had been recorded for archival purposes and was going to be placed in the vault. Does that sound like a candidate for release to you?

Thematically I think you can make a 'Rock N Roll Love Afair' album which is a Prince and Andy Allo project. Several Songs ended up Art Official Age and Superconductor after the concept was dropped.

i think you're right there. but even if they didn't set out to write/record a single album

amongst them, they did write some good tunes together. at the very least she was a

good influence on his songwriting. i love pretty much everything she was involved in cool

I was pretty sad those 2013 singles/giveaways didn't end-up on an album, because I liked them a lot and I'd have listened to them a lot more.

I don't really listen to flying songs much.

I really like Art Official Age but that aspect of it bugs the hell out of me. All those songs in the middle that have nothing to do with the theme of the rest of the album

Oh and while i'm at it, my own playlist, I think it's got a good flow:

1. Rock and Roll Love Affair (Original Extended Mix)
2. Same Page, Different Book
3. Screwdriver Remix
4. Boyfriend (demo)
5. Octopus Heart
6. That Girl Thang
7. Groovy Potential
8. Ain't Gonna Miss U When Ur Gone
9. Da Bourgeoisie (with horns)

I didn't include Extraloveable because I still can't face the reality of that version existing

Groovy Potential alone would've been worth the price of admission.

So many of his albums have a Courtship/Sex->Breakup->Resignation/Redemption through spirituality cycle to them that it's basically his template at this point. I use it as the basis for most of my playlists.

i'd like these hitnrun albums to be a new avenue for prince to release odds n' ends without the pressure to make the perfect album with a new concept every time, it could go on for a good few phases (volumes) yet.

Maybe youre right, the HNR series could just be his outlet for him and Josh to play around. But as for including any odds n ends he has lying around, hasnt he been doing that since the turn of the century? He didnt call them HNR phases, but he did call them Musicology, 3121, Planet Earth, Lotusflow3r and 2010. smile
