Of course, Prince didn't make music younger generations could relate to.

Btw: Imagine Jimi Hendrix still living and making music. What would he and his fans have thought about Prince's success with this Purple Rain image etc.? You see, this is a generation thing and the way it goes. No need to be pissed.

Agreed!

I can't believe he even namechecks him and Kanye..ugh!

They don't even have an ounce of talent or the musical ability that he has, it should be the other way around.

I really dislike hiphop as a genre (with very few exceptions), and I don't know a single song by JayZ, and I am happy with it.. more influential than Prince..? lol

Yuck then be it... I just don't think so. wink

I was wondering the same thing. Let's just say that ten or fifteen years from now somebody else will be more rich & famous than Jay Z and Jay will be kissing that person's ass...

Businesswise jay z like sean combs is carving out an influence that can serve for generations to come.. in a different way.

Prince is music personified. That will be his claim in history. You cant really compare the two, they are both important.

But musically JayZ's music while its had its moment - has had nowhere near the influence of Princes music.

Princes influences will be heard forever.

Jay Z needs P's fans help to keep Tidal going. Prince's HitNRun is to get Jay Zs fans into Prince & they'll soon discover his other albums, I'm not mad @ P for this remix album now that I have so many other albums of his to stream so good luck to the both of them

True. THe influence that JayZ has is not artistic or musical - its cultural. He is more popular than Prince because this sorry society values popularity and shuns substance and history. Prince could make something twice as brilliant as his best work and it would not get more attention than whatever some thugged out embarrassment to black manhood would be getting for some illiterate, low brow nonsense being passed off as music - that fact speaks more to the state of this world than anything to do with Prince

I doubt any Prince fans who stay with Tidal past the free month will make a difference in Tidal's future.

I'd be interested to see how many Prince fans actually subscribe to Tidal . .. but it's not like they ask "are you joining Tidal because of Prince" upon signup.

Jay-z has made smart investments it does not make him an excellent businessman. I also doubt that Prince thought he would be running any sort of business.

The generational comment is a very good one. There will be another performer someday who will be dubbed "the new Prince". It's inevitable. The closest thing right now would be Bruno Mars, but he's not quite it.

Why does this make you feel sick? Is it because Jay Z is a rapper? Do you think that Rappers aren't talented? You realize Jay Z is a better businessman than Prince? See Rockawear, Rockafella Records, RocNation, RocNation Sports, his investment in the Barclays center in Brooklyn etc. Jay Z actually ran Def Jam for 4 years and signed and worked with people he had issues with in the past because that was what he thought was best for business. Jay Z is a smart dude.

What really and truly pisses me off about that is, I happen to know for a fact that it really shouldn't AND wouldn't be that way, if Prince wasn't so busy being...well...PRINCE!!! Real talk, right this very minute...Prince should be reigning motherfucking SUPREME over the ENTIRE music industry!!!

BEFORE there was Tidal, Spotify, I heart Radio, iTunes, Pandora, Google Play, Instagram, Twitter, Facebook and Youtube-- Prince was the only mainstream SUPERSTAR that had on his own, seen the potential of what the internet could and would, eventually be. So much so, in 2006, on the 10th Anniversary of Webby Awards, they saw it fit to give him a Lifetime Achievement Award, even with the hit and misses, he'd had regarding the internet that us grandpa Orgers happen to KNOW about, first hand.

Had he gotten his EGO out of the way and actually LISTENED to the people that would not just bow down and blow smoke up his ass because he was Prince and once upon a time, he was funky, he'd have had the largest internet following of ANY major Superstar BEFORE the term Social Media existed. Hell, truth be told...in the early 2000's, I hated chat rooms because when you posted a comment, it took way too much effort to see what you posted and replies to it and if you logged out, forgetaboutit! However, the very reason other than obvious Prince factors, that I gravitated to the Org and what used to be Housequake.com was for the "forum" format...because I could post a comment, leave, come back and easily find what I'd said and any replies to it. For all intents and purposes back then, there were hundreds of thousands of hardcore Prince fans blazing out trails all over the new frontier that was and would become the internet as we know it today. Before he purposely, deliberately and continually chose to piss us off royally...just because he's Prince and no one could do that better. rolleyes

Add to that, the conversations, the music, the videos...that were made available through the efforts of those of us...that supported and cared about Prince and his legacy...his internet presence and success was flat out the leader of the pack, way before Jay married Bey and he hadn't got to his 99th problem yet! lol shrug

Several years ago, I'd have wholeheartedly agreed with you and likely actually said something similar to that myself. However, contrary to popular belief-- I honestly do live in the now...as opposed to the past-- and with that being said. In the now, Prince...himself... seems to personally be making it so that his influences WILL NOT be heard forever. From all that I can fathom, he's on a one man mission of making sure his influences aren't even memories. hmm

I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

When Jay-Z shows up somewhere, people react like this: "oh hey, look, Jay-Z is here".

When Prince shows up somewhere, people react like this: "OMFG!!! PRINCE!!!"
