Let's examine our expectations on HitNRun before & after

Every time there's a new album release the same comments are made in anticipation.
It will suck or it will be the best album in years.

In an attempt to gauge the reality of fans expectations, let's rate HitNRun twice.

Once before you hear it and your reaction after the first listen through.
To keep it simple Use a scale of one to five😀, five being one of Prince's best albums to one being forgettable.

I'll start: 😀😀😀

If I can come back and add another smile, I'll be thrilled. I'm fearful I'll be removing one.

Its going to be so bloody awful HITNRUN will make"Plectrum Electrum" sound like- "Purple Rain"!!

It will make "Mplsound" sound like- "1999"!!

I'm anticipating historians to remember HITNRUN for a nail in the coffin for Princes career. Next to the nails of Josh Welton and Larry Graham

We'll see soon!

I expect it to be one of his weakest albums, although there will be a couple of songs I'll enjoy. I also expect it to be the last one before he seriously reconsiders the direction his career is taking.

Blank opinion. Long as there are up to 5 songs I'd replay then its considered a good album. Best be some funk on there. Weird purple funk. Excellent if some of them give me chills.

Straight Jacket Funk Affair
Album plays and love for vinyl records.

I think it will be an entertaining album. And that's about it.Judgeing by the song titles it will have little substance.

I'm gonna cosign this shit here, so I guess I'll make it easy and just agree with your post-listening opinion too. Just try not to make it embarrassing because I got a reputation to uphold.

I think the inclusion of Fallinlove2nite, X's Face and TCBU remix is evidence enough that the bar is set pretty low on this one. And Hardrocklover ain't much better. It may be the best of a bad bunch, but as a stand alone song it's still pretty tepid.

I would gladly be pleasantly surprised, but I'm pretty sure it's gonna suck big fat donkey balls. AOA wasn't great and I get the feeling this is going to be on a similar level if not worse.

I expect a dance album full of irresistably funky grooves and forgettable songs. I expect the HitnRun tour to resume without any of the songs being played just like the 20Ten tour.

It used to bother me that he didn't play more new songs in the set, but with the quality of his output post-20Ten, I'm fully on board with the touring legacy act.

This is the first time ever I'm expecting myself not to enjoy the upcoming Prince album. Sometimes he exceeds my expectations, other times he doesn't live up to them. But even in those cases, I still normally enjoy the album or am at least indifferent to it. But this one feels different. I'm actually expecting it to be poor. While "Hardrocklover" is a solid song, I really dislike the "This Could Be Us (Remix)" and I find "X's Face" rather lame. "Fallinluv2nite" is also a rather average effort - I can't see how any Joshua Welton remix is going to save that one. Plus the snippet of "Shut This Down" that's circulating sounds really dull. So there's only a glimmer of hope from what I've heard. I really hope I'm proven wrong though. I'm sure there will be at least one or two good songs. But as an album, I'm expecting it to be pretty forgettable.

same here Toejam...hope I am proven wrong but with only a few days to go I'm still not even 'hyped' for this album at all...to the point I haven't pre-ordered or even asked at my local store if they even know when it's out....

I'm not joining Tidal for this, will grab a copy when I can I guess but yeah....hope I'm wrong but I fear this is gonna be embarrassing for everyone... and I liked AOA....well, most of it....

^Yep. Normally I'm all over the pre-orders and checking the local wreka stows to find out when it will hit Aussie shops (even just for curiosity). But I'm just not enticed at all by what I've heard so far to feel excited.

i just wish warners were in charge and had the power to choose the songs like the old days.

i think if he had put on 2y2d on instead of xs face i think anticipation would be a bit higher or even revelation which i have not heard. Having new songs is much better than remixes.

Hopefully album turns out good but is comment about only for hardcore fans fill with dread as really saying only hardcore fans would be stupid enough to buy it.

Which does not coincide the early comment about super amazing hit after hit. as that is what i wanted. another diamonds and pearls.

i also prefer more live instruments to electronic music. I think he got carried away with aoa reaction on here which was a mediocre album really.

I expect it to be something fun and unpretentious, more a good collection of danceable songs interspersed with some ballads than a real Prince album. People forget his side projects were light stuff to begin with.

I'm more intrigued about Phase 2.

I like all I've heard so far. Hardrocklover. This could b us remix, x's face and the start of million dollar show. I also like the original fall in love and 1000 hugs & kisses.

There are still some unknowns but at the moment my anticipation rating is:

biggrin biggrin biggrin biggrin

I was looking forward to it after liking AOA and Hardrocklover but can't help be a bit underwhelmed now after hearing TCBU remix and seeing the set list.
.
There's still 1 or 2 unknown songs to look forward to but even they could be rehashes - I'm wondering if Mr Nelson is a Clouds remix.

I just checked at my own local record shop and they knew zilch, nada, niente. Maybe it'll be an Amazon-only release like Superconductor?

I like hardrocklover and ex's face alot, so i'm going to hope for the best smile

At the end of the day all I want is to hear my baby sing and play.

Josh is good enough, not unique or inventive, but good enough, so let's see....we could be pleasently surprised.

People may not know it, but i really disliked AOA, so I my expectations for future Prince was decidedly low. But then Hardrocklover was out and was pleasently supprised at hearing a new Prince track with life again! Like a shot of addrenaline and testosterone was suddenly injected into his music.

So, I will wait to listen to the entire thing, but I like Hardrocklover, I like Stare (i know it;s not on the album) and unlike a lot of people here I like the remix of TCBU a lot better than the original. I will just say that though Josh may be young and unexperiance, he does bring a new energy and vitality missing in most of Prince's newer music. It certainly sounds less grandma-ish.

I am very curious to hear the end result.

Wait, didn't you start a few threads about how great AOA was and how Prince really nailed the production on it?

my expectations are low.

Prince is being extrelemly lazy here.

he didnt bother with a real title.

he didnt bother with new songs(all the remixes).

he didnt bother producing it.

maybe this is where he wakes up,takes a three year break

and returns with a killer album and a new attitude.

not crossing my fingers though.

I will be honest: i will check it out... i will give it a real chance to hook me... that means i will aquire it and give it several listens.... if it gets me and if it is sold on some physical format i will buy it. (and even if not on CD as long as I can put it on one--so if i can get it on itunes i will support him)

but i have a high standard
