So we have to join Tidal?

...to hear / buy the new album I have to join Tidal?

but I don't WANT to join Tidal. No interest. Certainly no interest in paying a monthly fee.

So far I think the new Prince tracks are sub-standard and he's up to his typical maddening pre-album promotional choices: like why release a not-as-good remix of This Could Be Us as a single?

I heard he "might" release the album as a hardcopy CD. But when?

I'm annoyed.

I thought AOA was his best in years. He made it easy to buy. iTunes. I've got it in my iPhone. Millions of people use it. Whatev!

Try the free trial. You can download the album and play it afterwards even if you no longer have a subscription.

Also, my undertanding is, that a physical release will follow later, possibly Oct 15th.

You can't keep the download once the trial expires can you?

But either way, you can easily record it and burn it to a CD.

If it's free any way, I don't have to go through the hassle of joining right, I can just google it - isn't that how it works batting eyes

I heard you can still play it using their app providing you downloaded it. Not sure yet as I'm not intending to join until the 6th.

Nobody will be forced to join Tidal, eventually there will be a hard copy or digital download elsewhere.

I haven't joined Tidal either and I don't plan to.I don't really like the idea of "streaming" music. If he releases it on a physical CD,I'll buy it then.

But Tidal is free for a month, so what's the problem with joining?

I honestly do not understand why people are up in arms about this. I joined the other day, it took about 1 minute, maybe less. After that I straight away went to the unsubscribe page to make sure that it doesn't actually renew. I'm good to the 29th Sept then it ends.

The mobile app has an offline switch so that you can download stuff to the device. I'd be surprised if you could still listen once your subscription has expired because you won't have a valid log in any more. I'll find out on the 29th smile.

I don't know anyone who has Tidal and not many knows what Tidal is, he should makes his music accessible where he can reach most people (Spotify YouTube etc)

exactly!...in fact, its worth the 9.99 or 19.99 that you have to pay, depending on which version you get....

Trur but it has nothing to do with what I just said, Tidal isn't a very well known music streaming service, it has only 540 000 subscribers

will be interesting to see by how much the subscriptions will rise when the album drops.

Prince has said countless times that Black people need to own more companies. Black people own Tidal. Yet people here seem puzzled as to why P has partnered with Tidal. P doesn't have to sell as others. He is probably trying to help J out.

He doesn't have to do anything and Spotify and YouTube are the WORST places to release music for an artist if he wants to make money.

Of course, if you work FOR FREE, then you may not concur.

TIDAL may yet be the best place to hide this Jince/Prosh album away.

No. This is why I said 'may yet', rather than 'will'.

You tried to do a clever response, but failed. Nice try though.

No it doesn't. That was an overestimation around the time of the "press conference". The number being thrown around back then was 770k. The problem is that they are including "subscribers" such as myself, who canceled the service as soon as I verified the app worked.

With that being said, I'm sure Prince saw the writing on the wall and took some money upfront to say he would move everything to Tidal (seeing that he probably the only artist who could actually follow up on the 'exclusive' claim). It puts his name in the news and immediately spreads his music to ~50-200k new listeners (potentially).

I'm sure Prince wishes he could push the date up a bit (as the wave crashes), but overall it was a smart business move. Using a struggling (therefore desperate) service to increase his audience. He's already been compensated, I'm sure.

I'm also sure that Tidal was never meant to be an end all, but I respect the way P is still searching for some type of commercial renaissance. I mean, I'd rather see moves like this than him going back to the thong-trench-bandana ensemble.

Where do you propose they hide the CD's which will be releasing a short while after?

I wouldn't be so quick 2 jump 2 Tidal just yet...
Rumor is that front man Jay-Z may be bailing out due to not being able to secure funding or something like that... Big shock, right?
Amazon is claiming a physical release for HiTnRuN so I can wait.
Besides, I have attempted to subscribe twice with no luck.
Thanks, but no thanks.
