This is the most "sane" and candid Prince has come off in a minute....

To folks complaining about the old man (or the journalist) not digging more into the sound of HITNRUN, fall back....It's obvious Prince answered the questions he was given....And truthfully, I'm more interested on why dude decided to align himself with a new streaming service that has gotten off to a bumpy start than how the fifth track on the new album sounds...

I dig the Kendrick shout out. I dig his view on hip-hop (much better than his past out-of-it comments) and its power. I dig that Prince is straight up letting it be known that he not only wants to get what he feels he's worth, but he's hooking up with TIDAL (whether u think it's bullshit or not) because it's owned by a black man from Brooklyn, a rarity in the streaming tech game....

Maybe the issue with Prince these days on the Org is dude has gone a little Race Man. Maybe people think he's a little too money hungry (which is puzzling to me given that Taylor Swift was praised on this very site for pulling her music off of Spotify)....Because I can't see why folks would be getting so ridiculously angered and unhinged by the brand, style, and caliber of music he's releasing as he approaches 60....

What Prince does now musically is gravy folks....Let that man live....

I like the part of the Josh portion of the interview where he mentions how he got the gig as producer. Prince gave him and 2 other guys the stems to all of the tracks and whoever was funkiest won. What an exciting opportunity.

How money obsessed is this guy anyway? It's all he talks about. oh ya, he talks about record contracts and how the industry is broken, too. I would love to hear him actually talk in depth about the craft of songwriting and musicianship and the process of making good his albums.

You hit the nail right on the head. I'm glad to see some of ya'll are finally figuring this "new" Prince out now. He's all about the money now. Before he devoted all his creativity into the music, and it sounded as such. Now he devotes all his creativity in controlling the most amount of dollars for his music. The actual creativity in the music takes an back seat. He's basically the musical equlivant of an fast food resturant. I know folks are gonna defend their "savior", but listen to how Prince talks now, in comparisan to how he use to talk. Before when he talked about musical influences, he spoke about the fusion of melodies and sounds, and the colors they paint in his mind. Now all he talks about is millions and ownership. ....and his new music has suffered creatively for it.

Well the reason he's all about the money now is necause there's no label paying the bills, the bills come to him lololol. He runs his own business and when you do that, thats what happens. Prince is actually a great case for the good record labels do, when they're doing good.... smile

I guess if you've been following someone's career for 30 years you're entitled to be nonsurplussed at a small interview... but remember there's still a lot of younger people who are just discovering Prince for the first time!
