Did he work with Macy Grey?

Maybe I'm a little behind, but on the Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic 1999/2000 concert DVD, there is an interview with Macy Grey.

Did P ever collaborate with Macy Grey?

I think she wrote "Gimme All Your Lovin' or I Will Kill You" about Prince.

he drives a g wagon
and he looks just like my dream
I been climbin' all his mountains
I been swimming all his seas

no matter what or how I tried
I couldn't get the man to fall in love with me
turns out he likes the girls with long and wavy hair
mine is short and kinky
I have lost my mind

c'mon and
gimme all your lovin'
or I will kill you
put one through your head
gimme all your lovin'
or I will kill you
and cry when you're dead

his whole body was shaking
and he holla'd when he fell to his knees
I held tighter to my ak
he said please please whatever you need
see I have searched the wide world
to find the peace for the war in me
don't wanna look no further
but you refuse to give it to me

and I have lost my mind

c'mon and
gimme all your lovin'
or I will kill you
put one through your head
gimme all your lovin'
or I will kill you
and cry when you're dead

it's amazing what a gun to the head can do
my baby loves me now as hard as he can
my methods may be suspect
but you gotta get love however you can

I have lost my mind!

I'm not sure if they got that far. I remember seeing her storming out of Paisley Park in tears, with a friend. Maybe at one of the celebrations?

eek eek eek

Macy Grey is one of the wildest, most creative and most original R&B artists of her generation. One could say Janelle Monae is the Macy Gray of the 2010's.

IDK why Macy never collaborated with Prince but it's a pity because God could it have been great!

Cassandra Wilson played for both of them if I ain't mistaken.

She was definitely at one of the Celebrations. (The first one, I believe.)

She even performed on his birthday. I remember her singing Happy Birthday & I was thinking 'He ain't gonna like this.'

I also remember them posting something on Love4OneAnother or whatever his site was at the time saying 'Macy Gray is a great big teddy bear' or something like that.

It was a definite missed opportunity whatever happened. However Macy admits she was completely effed up during a lot of her early appearances, so that could've prevented it also.

BTW it's GrAy.

With an 'A.'

Sorry, but calling her 'Grey' is driving me nuts.

lol

I know there's a bootleg from Chicago, circa 2000/2001 where she performed with him, but I cant remember the name. Other than that, no colab that i know of.

And if she wrote "Gimme All Your Lovin..." about him...AWESOME!

Make it so, Number One...

I should have added an emoticon to show I meant it humorously, but looking at the lyrics, it could actually fit lol

He played guitar on a track from the ID. The story goes that the producer came back to the studio to find guitar all over a track & when he asked Macy about it, she simply said 'Prince came by'.

If I'd have known that, I'd have posted it. As for source, google's your friend, but to be honest the story's been rattling around this place for years.

IF Google is my friend, THEN Prince did not play guitar on any tracks on The Id.

IF Prince did play guitar on a track on The Id, THEN Google is not my friend, or, Google does not know about it. Neither does princevault.com.

I've never seen this story rattling around this place, nor can I find it, that's why I asked... wink

Anyone else able to shine light on this?

A very few secret guest appearances have been revealed years after the songs had been released (Keep It Together or Get Satisfied for example) so who knows, but it's the first time I ever hear of this rumor concerning The Id.

It's a totally amazing record regardless, BTW : biggrin

I love that album. In fact I love pretty much all of Macy's output.

Oh and I got the wrong instrument! He is meant to play Piano on there, not guitar! Oops. Here's an interview with ?uestlove where he mentions it:

"I’m in the dark with how the collab’s gonna work. Do I instruct Prince as to what his part is? Do we present the music and just let him play? Do we write? He’s in his uncredited phase. He just did the same thing on Macy’s record. I’m listening to something we did. I hear this piano. She turns and says, "Aw, Prince stopped by.""

Strange, the way he puts it, it's like it's on the record. Has anyone dug on this before?

Is the deluxe edition of The Way an exclusive to a particular retailer? I'm not seeing it on Amazon or Discogs.

She's finishing it off as we speak (was meant to be out a couple of months ago). The latest update was that it'll be out by the end of this month.

Here's BOB. Not keen on the video but the song is pure crazy Macy:

Macy Gray is repulsive, obnoxious, unattractive, and not very talented..

Why would P have worked with her?

He wasn't latching himself onto up-and-coming names in Macy's heyday. He was still hitching his wagon to washed up acts. It was before the transition.
