Purple Rain Remaster delay - it may not be Prince's fault

Another act that i'm a huge fan of, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, also seems to have having issues with a reissue. Tom is wanting to reissue 1995 Wildflowers album (he was with Warners at the time) with additional material. The re-issue was announced last year and still has not seen the light of day. In a recent interview, Tom stated that the album is ready to go with all the unreleased stuff remastered for release but it's just Warners that he's waiting for the go ahead from.

Could this be the case with Purple Rain?

There may also be holdups with the other members of the Revolution, and anyone else involved (living and dead). You'd think with such a big community as this, someone would know someone that knows something! Oh well smile

The difference here is that Tom has actually gone out and said that there is an issue with the release.

Whereas whatsisface says nothing to his fans, as he doesnt give a fark. So...........

Warners has stated tht they are remastering alot of his back catulogue, thus why his music has been removed from streaming services. That, I think is the reason behing the hold-up.

Sure, this is always possible. Who knows ?!

But, knowing Prince as we (like to think we) do,

I'd say it is most likely him delaying things.

Hard to believe I've been on the org for over 25 years now!

That's the whole thing. We know nothing, so we start making up rumours and then believe our own rumours as if they are facts. That's human nature for ya.

They're also back up on Qobuz after being removed recently. There had been speculation that the removal from these sites was because remastered versions were coming. But I'm guessing these are just the same as before otherwise Pono and Qobuz would be making a big deal about it.

It was Pono that said that's what they were told by Warners.

No solid confirmation, but Pono has no reason to lie about it.

What's happening with the Wildflowers box set? I've been hearing about that for years.
It's not really a box set. They have the second album of the double album that was originally made. We are going to release the second disc that hasn't been released before. I like it a lot. The original plan was to release it as as the complete Wildflowers album with the original album and this. And Warner Bros. came back to us and said, "Look, this is far too good a record to just send straight to the catalog racks. We're going to put it out as its own album." I was behind that decision too. It's done and we're eventually going to put it out. It's just sitting there finished, so I'm waiting to hear when they're going to put it out.

They might be waiting until everything is remastered so they can release them all at once, either as single releases and/or a box set for the hardcore fans.

.

This might maximize marketing costs and minimize the amount of promotion needed from Prince himself (more or less it would be a "one time" campaign).

It's something I read a month back and, prior to posting, I tried finding the link but couldn't find it. But he did say it.

Albums are still on Tidal and have now been added to iTunes this week.
