I'd put it this way: Both "Stare" and the Seinfeld theme are Larry Graham tributes.

It's a killer groove. The bass is a classic, hooky, slap-bass ode-to-Larry Graham line. Love the horns also. And I like the lyrics and layered vocals. It's all just classic funk, really. But it kind of goes no where after the first couple of mins. The "Kiss" and "Sexy Dancer" references are a bit cheesy. It is as though it runs out of steam from there on. Good for what it is. But for Prince it's nothing really new.

I think it's just Prince torturing us.

Saying one thing, doing the other.

Doesn't live in the past, mainly plays the old stuff.

And never giving us the remasters.

1) His name is Prince not prince. prince is not a name. prince is a symbol made up by Prince which actually translates as a symbol for hermaphrodites. Human hermaphrodites are mutants. They are genetically malformed and something went wrong during their early development. Perhaps you should consider that every time you use this symbol to address him.
2) This isnt a classic funk jam. It is a song with a few funk elements that actually lacks any of the energy and rawness that is true funk.
3) He didnt make this all by himself. He clearly has horn players on the track.
4) His musical gift does in fact end. It ends when he starts trying to create classical ballets or pure jazz for example. It also comes in fits and starts. See Purple & Gold, Wedding Feast, Jughead and the song Grafitti Bridge for examples of musically gift-free ideas.
5) He gets plenty of appreciation, even when we take you out of the equation. Do you read what is said on the org or are you so enclosed in your bubble or perpetual ass kissing that you are blind to it all?
6) There is no god, and consequently no heaven above.

I agree with this; fantastic groove, horns brilliant and voice also very good, and I also I think it picks up again when it fades back in, nice one! On the downside it seems to lack direction somewhat and does not really go anywhere as such, more groove than a song but still very, very enjoyable cool

It's just a groove, not a carefully crafted pop song or deep funk exploration. I'm cool with that. I'd rather he plowed this field for a while rather than some of his more recent inch deep explorations of modern pop. Being that we all agree that he's generally a lot better live than on record at the moment, even if we all have personal recorded favs, I think it's cool to hear a song that actually sounds a little more like his live sound.

All of this is bearing in mind prince.org is the website with a 30 page thread about how prince can't play funk music.

Thank you Prince for all that great music 1978-1995, some songs a gift from god, some nicked from other artists.

But now you really need to find a new hobby.

Yes, except that people who don't like musicals shouldn't comment on the song Graffiti Bridge.

Great melody, great singing, great guitar work.

OK then,

http://prince.org/msg/7/417258?&pg=2

"Abysmal production, a blatant attempt at imitating modern r&b (but "improved" by Prince), pathetic lyrics that seem to have been written by a pubescent boy.

.

So of course the famz label this a masterpiece."

...to be fair "flawed human being" was a bit of an exaggeration but you are effectively saying the song is bad (fair enough, that's your opinion) and that anyone who likes it is wrong to do so (which is bollocks as the appreciation of all art is subjective).

Do I win a prize?

I can do it easily: Militant basically ordered everyone to adore AOA or else you weren't a good fan. Hell, EVERY TIME there's a bit of criticism the famz attack anyone who dares to publsih such vile words about their hero. Hell, this very thread wasn't a page old and already somebody was preliminarily attacking me.

.

Here's an idea: STICK TO THE TOPIC instead of making baseless personal attacks.

Here's an idea why don't you bugger off and stop commenting negative comments EVERY TIME Prince drops new music. If you hate it then why bother posting here CONSTANTLY!

Anyway your Mum called she says its your bath time!

OK - just listened to it for the first time.

FIRST THINGS FIRST listen:

Sounded upbeat, fun and a nice groove. I actually found my head bopping without realising so that is a good thing. Also I loved the ‘kiss’ bit just thought it was cool. Reminded me a bit of a song called, ‘Buddha of suburbia’ by David bowie where he just slips in the ‘space oddity’ guitar riff at one point and goes back to the song.

I don’t know if anyone else noticed the ‘computer blue’ guitar towards the end as it fades out the first time and then back in?

And also sexy Dancer. So that’s 3 hits in the one song?

SECOND THINGS FIRST:

Still sounds a bit upclose to the microphone (which has been a common problem the past few years... take a step back and let the voice out), intruments and voice it sounds like there is no guts to it. Maybe a wee bit over produced. Still digging the tune and still bopping.

The second verse where he says, ‘tell me what you wanna do..’ could have extended on that is a nice little melody however it pulls into a deeper funk tune from there.

Still enjoying it, I think it sounds like quite a cool bridge between two songs. It does sound hot. It has a sweaty hot feeling about it. Which if the album goes along these lines I think we are in for a treat to be honest.

I love the track, and I love that Prince is still making great music. I really don't see why Prince fans can't just enjoy that P is still making music, and respect the vision of a great artist. If you don't dig it, then go listen to your favorite P albums, no reason not 2. That's the beauty - its subjective, if SOTT is your favorite album listen to it - If you can't get enough of Art Official Age, well then play that thing until your stereo breaks. I should a friend of mine housequake - and the next time I saw him he had downloaded the entire SOTT album. I have another friend who I've played the Purple Rain and Parade album to - and he says his favorite Prince song is TICTACTOE from PE. It's subjective - and guess what, thats okay, that's what it's all about. C'mon people - just jam to what makes you feel good - to what makes you feel.

Sure, different tastes and all that.

But even if you like his new music, I find it impossible to believe that you really think it's 'great'.

He has made a few songs this century that are 'alright', a few that are good. But that's it.
