Embarassing Moments- Prince edition

I know he is a vision on stage but what about his less than smooth moments?

Fallen?
Ripped his pants?
Pulled a Fergie?

Anyone have funny stories?

I remember watching this rehersal video where he was playing piano and he got up on top of the piano as he does and there must have been some paper hanging about cos' he slipped on it slightly and got angry, stamped his foot then had someone remove them whilst he continued rehearsing haha!

thats easy...

when he went on stage with James Brown and MJ..

one fail after another...from the moment Chick carried him on stage and he threw his lace glove in the crowd, and it got thrown back in his face...then he took the great Jimmy Nolen's guitar, only to appear as if he had never touched or played a guitar before...then he took off his jacket, appeared to put some coked out voodoo spell on the microphone stand before yelping/screeching incoherently into the startled microphone...then after a coupled of awkward attempts at "dancing", P tries to get his Chick-piggyback-ride off the stage, but falls off the stage and tears down a lamppost that was set up as a stage prop...the whole time JB pacing between bandmambers still playing, with the WTF? look on his face...that clip NEVER gets old...Prince is my musical hero, but he shoulda just chilled in the crowd and enjoyed his buzz...MJ & JB wrong for puttin P on the spot when he clearly wasnt ready to perform at that moment...

I had to watch that clip after listening to Baltimore.

Then everything felt right as rain. smile

I wouldn't exactly call it embarrasing but when he sang on the AH show and squirted lighter fluid (as if he were taking a piss) on a negative review of the Symbol album he throws a lit match and it doesn't take so he had to light another match. Turned a cool, defiant moment into an oh noes!

It was on a site called Nico Nico. It's a Japanese site that you need an account to watch videos on sadly. I already had an account because I do other stuff on that site too lol.

That is CGI.
It's a fake, edited in the same room they filmed the Apollo 11 mission.

There are many moments on live boots where you can tell he's flubbed. One that comes to mind is the '84 bd show. He starts to either come in too early or flubs the first line in When Doves Cry, then tries to cover it up by trying to talk to the crowd. I also remember him getting the mic caught in his sleeve at the beginning of Gett Off from the MTV awards.

I remember seeing Prince during Wembley, UK Lovesexy tour and he gets out the car, saunters over to the mic and trips - anyone else remember this?

Haha u noticed that too. lol

Don't forget the Grammy's Baby I'm A Star performance where the mic hits him in the face...

He had a nasty fall during the Act II tour, even landed on the cover of a newspaper...

But the most embarassing... Is the malfunction that no one ever talks on I Don't Wanna Leave U at 6.00.

I think the appearance with JB and MJ is particularly cringe worthy. Another that comes to mind is the 1980 Atlanta show when he says "I thank you. My band thanks you. My thank you thank yous". Happens to us all...

The MTV Under The Cherry Moon interview.

I can't remember what awards show it was in the 90's when they did "We Are The World" and he just stood on the stage sucking a tootsie pop.

Exactly. Why do people continue to promulgate this lie? disbelief

when P took the lollipop out his mouth and put it in front of Quincys mouth, and Q acted like he wanted to suck it too, i fell out...if anything Quincy should be embarrassed for acting like he wanted to suck P's used lollipop...i actually thought it was a Boss move by Prince....like, "nah, i dont wanna sing...but here, suck on THIS, Mr. Jones.."

Open Letter 2 Madonna ( sent out via email to all luv41a/npgmc members ):

Madonna: artist 2 artist, eye am sure u understand the connection eye feel
2 my music. U more than any1 at Time Warner knows the patience and care
with which we give birth 2 creation... and u maybe moreso than any1 knows
how much a new artist longs 2 find a place amongst "the chosen few" 2
flaunt those creations (and at the same time put food on one's table).
Music lawyers, managers and execs make deals best suited 4 their futures
as well as urs in most cases... OWNERSHIP OF MASTER RECORDINGS IS ALMOST
NEVER AN ISSUE! (let's remember, it was 1978!)

Eye dreamt of u and eye at the Grammy Awards and felt a need 2 write this
letter 2 u. In my dream, eye approached u and asked u if u remembered me,
and u said "sure"... u were on ur way up 2 receive 1 of numerous awards u
will no doubt receive that night, and eye asked u 2 help me with my fight
2 retain ownership of my legacy and u said, "eye don't own ur masters,
Time Warner does... if it was my company, u could have them."

"But eye say 2 u, dear sister, it IS ur company as long as u remain in
their graces... 4 all Artists, Madonna, make a stand 4 what is RIGHT...
surely they will listen 2 u!" In the dream u seemed 2 feel me and yet u
were a bit non-committal... so as u approached the podium, eye followed u,
and as we stood side by side, eye said, "b glad this a commercial break!"
and eye walked offstage and looked 4 Wyclef. Interpretaions aside, artist
2 artist, "U Can Help Us... and eye know u will becuz u REMEMBER ME."

I can't find the footage anymore, but Prince once appeared on MTV's TRL to promote Rave Un2 the Joy Fantastic, and he made a complete ass of himself.

First, the leaste cringe worthy part: He tried to promote an upcoming TV appearance by name dropping old irrelevant acts to the crowd he chose to take part in. If you're going to show up on a silly ass show like TRL, do your homework.

Second, the most cringe worthy part: When Carson Daly complimented him, Prince chose to be rude to him and asked him, "what?" in a rude way. Carson said that in an age of plastic music, it's good to have musicians like Prince whose stuff stands the test of time. Carson explained what he said politely to Prince, and Prince with a shit-eating grin and arrogant smirk, replied, "You wouldn't have anything to do with that, would you." at which point Carson schooled Prince live on T.V. in the worst way explaining that TRL is a show in which music people vote for is given to them. He likened himself to a bar tender--he may not even drink or like the drinks he serves, but they're the ones the consumer orders. Prince had a sheepish, "if you say so" response, and looked....really REALLY bad. He got his ass served to him, and for no reason: He was complimented, responded poorly, and got put in his place by someone who was a host of a stupid teeny-bob show.

It was a real low point.
