Anyone noticed the red hand that presses "play" on the Kid's tape deck (the crying backwards scene) ?

It's not Apollonia's or Prince's.

What's with this weirdo basement? Is it possessed?

Can anyone who lives in Minneapolis say more about the Longfellow area in general? Some posts on other sites seem to indicate that this area is dangerous and should be avoided at all costs, and that even the relatively paltry 110K asking price is way too much, even considering the needed rehab.

Really? I had always assumed it was hers. Wasn't she wearing that red lace on her hands in that scene?

its not dangerous...its a working class neighborhood where many people use the nearby blue line metro transit trains and buses, but its not like theres alot of random criminal activity popping off between minnehaha and hiawatha avenues where the house is

In which case, it's still a pretty weird editing. She looks like she's a bit intimidated by the Kid's room, but helps herself anyway to the tape deck? And presses play without knowing what is going to play? But OK, I guess PR is no Citizen Kane.

At 19 she left home in New Orleans and went to Minneapolis to try her luck at becoming a star because she's a pretty good singer and dancer who is willing to jump in a lake for a stranger to get there. She is not scared of the Kid's basement. Or much else either. lol

And also, why would you leave a town that has loads of clubs and opportunities for singers to sing, the birthplace of American music, good food, and decent weather to go to cold ass Minneapolis, where there are way fewer clubs, just because you heard about this one cool club?

You must be referring to the severe crotch-grabbing in said basement.

Let us praise, once again, the wonderful score by Michel Colombier, which set the perfect tone
and made a dull suburbuan house alive, almost haunted by the growing tension of a family gradually falling apart.

Thank you for your attention and now we're back for some pizzazz :
So, the Kid's room decoration does look like a fifteen year old girl's...

I'm seriously interested in this as an investment, as its dirt cheap compared to UK houses. I've been eying up a property in South Beach, but this has history. What is the area like?

i guess instead of celebrating 30 years of Purple Rain with an extended remaster,

prince is more likely to buy this house and burn it to the ground. seems a lot more

likely too lol

Was the house sold?

To who(m)?

To rebuild or to destruct?

Any updates?

That would really show him as the idiot that he is with his total disgregard for monetization options of historic properties.

It would be Montreux 2009 and 2013 all over again.

imprimis

It is common for movie and television production teams using residential property for filming purposes to "fib" later on that an entire reproduction of the home, or a set not actually based on the internals of the home itself, built on an undisclosed sound stage are where the actual scenes are filmed. This may well be true of large-budget and special effects-type films.

.

I would, however, be very disinclined to believe that most (or, in fact, all) of the production for The Kid's home was not filmed inside and around the perimeter of this very house. PR is obviously, from a critical and budgetary perspective, to paraphrase Lionel Richie at the Purple Premier Party, 'not "Gone With the Wind"'; P funded a large portion of the production, at the event horizon of his superstardom; and the pick-up shots and reshoots were filmed in LA in ~January 1984, after the principal photography had been completed, and the film was likely already in early workprint stage.

.

Let's be perfectly honest; from the outset, the film itself was a low-budget, B MPLS production, with an uncertain commercial future.

.

I cannot fathom a legitimate purpose to build a set painstakingly based on the actual house, nor do I believe P, his management, or WB would have the wherewithal or the willingness, in 1983, to fund the construction of such a set. The story afterwards to that effect is likely to protect the peace and privacy of its owners from lookie-loos and tourists.

.

You mean the scene where she's sitting on the curb and he rides up on his bike and says, "Ma...what happened"? They don't show the house in that scene, for the simple reason that it was shot in California after shooting wrapped in Minneapolis. Look at the houses behind Prince - you think those beautiful Craftsman homes are in that Minne neighborhood? Yeah...no. lol

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.
