Shockadelica meaning

What do you think the meaning of the song "Shockadelica" is?

It's a great jam, but I have little to no idea what he's talking about. One basic question: is the woman in the song named Shockadelica, Camille, or unknown? (And yes, I know Camille is also the persona singing the song.)

Google has given me almost nothing on this one.

Shockadelica could be a feeling as Prince does personify feelings often. I always took Shockadelica to be the the name of the lady who Prince (his character persona in the song) was infatuated with. She has him hook line and sinker. He is enamoured with her and there is no suggestion the feeling is mutual. She has all the power, almost to a supernatural state (the girl must be a witch is a metaphor (or is it).

Coda: I like when Prince gets mad and shows people up (in this one he playfully was suggesting Jesse johnson should have a title track on his album as the hits liner notes informed me so long ago). Come and Gold experience seemed to be albums in angry times and totally kick Emancipation. The most beautiful girl in the world was released to show he could still make hits. Old friends for sale anybody? An angry Prince kicks butt. Unfortunately an angry or upset Prince is not good for him as a person. Heck I would settle for a mildly irked Prince composing songs now and see if the quality improved. He is like a reverse purple hulk, I like him when he is angry.

Yeah, angry Prince can be good. But vindictive Prince isn't (No More Candy...).

So what is the "just a mirage" part mean?

My interpretation is that this woman is so beautiful/sensual/seductive she is unreal a fantasy. Yet she is physical as he can touch her. So she is a fantasy in flesh. Another interpretation is that the is it real, could be feelings of love. He knows she isn't good for him but he is aflame with desire. The alchemy of his passion is turning his lust into what he thinks is love. He knows she is not the one, but he can't stop thinking about her. Obsession 101 or in other words poom poom poom she is an irresistible bitch to reference his works.

The only that Shockadelica is about is a neener neerer boo boo to Jesse Johnson for releasing an album with a great name without the album's namesake song.

there was a poster of her (troy) that was handed out at the glam slam fan convention. never understood why.

if she was his lady, i mean, i guess she was part of the harem because carmen and mayte were both there. prince has always been a flagrant mofo.

Late at night, when the world is sleeping
U r frightened, cause the power's creeping
In your room is something u're afraid of
Life or doom is what this feelings made of

.

The lights go out
The lights go out, the smell of doom
Is creepin' into your lonely room
The bed's on fire, your fate is sealed
And you're so tired
And the reason is Camille-mille

.

Time upon a once
There was a boy named Camille

Now this boy named Camille
didn't know how 2 feel.
Sometimes he was lonely
sometimes he was sad
but most times
he just took 4 granted
all the nice things
that he had.

.

Shockadelica
The girl must be a witch
She got your mind, body and soul hitched
Shockadelica
You need a second opinion
But she never wears a stitch
So you can't take her home
She got you tied with a golden rope
She won't let you play your guitar
And when you've cried enough
Maybe she'll let you up
For a nasty ride in her shockadeli-car
She'll make you beg, girl
Shockadelica
Got you in a trance
'Cause when this woman say dance you dance
Shockadelica
You need a second opinion
But you just can't leave her alone
As though you got no mind of your own
.

Shockadelica
Shockadelica, do me, do me, yea
Shockadelica
Shockadelica, do me, do me

The lights go out, the smell of doom
Again is creeping into your lonely room
Is this a dream or is this real?
Or is this just a mirage you feel?

It's sure not "The Power Fantastic"...

[Edited 7/27/15 14:30pm]

There was a syndicated black radio music magazine called, "Radioschope" that talked about all of that stuff...

Basically..

Had to hurt--because it was funky..with the Housequake beat too...

As a lil boy, it was a treat to dub it in the mix off of the radio...

My brother loved all of 'em (The TIme, Morris, Jesse...He really love Jesse's 1st Album), and the funk groups...

So, he was saying that Jesse was saying some stuff.., but when this was "in the mix" ...He said, "Prince got Jesse with this one..".

I agree with Prince's viewpoint.Jesse came up with a terrific album title but no title track! He should have been able to come up with a truly funky jam with that title.

Only if Prince was trolling junior high schools...

Which, given his eventual marriage to Mayte...

Oh, wow, wait - she's actually 50!
