Rock Over Germany 1993, throwing pearls before the swine

I have made a great Prince-live CD to a few of my friends, a 1-cd copy of the best tracks from "Rock Over Germany" + "Just My Imagination" & "Rave" (the song) both from the "Small Club" 2-Cd, and they did not like the music at all.

Their answer?

well my female friend said: "Prince hmmm my boyfriend took the cd off, and I don't like it either, I prefer Stevie Wonder".

Oh dear: even tho they are Prince "newbies", these recordings are sooo HOT, how can they not like it..????

Talking about throwing "pearls before the swine". I am so surprised. confused

I wonder why some people can't hear the genius in Prince's music.

Strange, but it's not an easy task to convince general people to be open minded towards Prince's music.. (damn).

"Rock Over Germany" is a boot, with the big hits:

Plus including great favorites like: Irrisitible Bitch & She's Always In My Hair.

(ps I took off My Name Is Prince and a few others)

It 's no use trying to 'convert' people to an artist, especially not with live bootlegs, even if they're soundboard. And certainly not with a boot from such a lame tour.

This is not music, this is a trip
No, it's not a drug, it's something more hip
Don't need no reefer, don't need cocaine
Purple music does the same to my brain

For the same reason there are serial killers - some people just aren't wired right. That's not on you...

Now that I think about it, I think I just compared your friends to serial killers... my bad lol

You should have made them a studio compilation of all the heavy hitters : When Doves Cry, Purple Rain, Raspberry Beret, 1999, Alphabet St, ICNTTPOYM, SOTT, IWYBYL, Cream. TMBGITW.

If that doesn't do it for them then they just ain't got the funk.

Yeah. Bootlegs, outtakes, b-sides, extended remixes, those are really "fan's only" releases.

Yeah I guess you are right - live material can't "do the trick",

and yeah like some of you are writing... maybe it was a bad idea to begin with, trying to convince non-fans.....

I was just trying to "broaden their minds"... so to speak.. wink

I went to that concert. It was great. Towards the end of the show he threw the Cloud guitar into the air. Good setlist, too.

If I were you, I'd get them hooked on a few hit singles first, then show them a few music videos. If they like Prince after that, show them a tour (I would pick SOTT) and they'll be hooked

Maybe eye do, just not like eye did before pimp2

If you want to convert newbies into Prince fans with a bootleg, it better be the soundboard 1984 birthday show.

I saw the rock over germany concert in Wildenrath, and it was awesome. He was in a very good mood, the weather was FANTASTIC all day long and I met a few very cool people.

Duran Duran played before him and they covered Sexy MF.

In the early evening Michael Bland was walking around through the crowd and he signed my ticket. One of his "assistants" or whatever her function was asked me to give her my name and address. A few weeks later I got mail from MPLS with a catalog of products sold at the NPG store.
