5 Women unreleased version question

Hi,

Princevault only lists the released TVOF4S version but there's also that version that's almost exactly like Cocker's version. I remember reading or hearing at some point that Prince had recorded it after Cocker released his version because he liked it so much and wanted to record a similar version, but I also remember reading somewhere that it was contemporary to the released version, in which case I don't even know whether Prince sent this version or the TVOF4S to Cocker.

Can anyone clear this?

Beats me. I share your surprise at the idea that these are the same basic tracks, but I guess they could be... but there's a lot of additions, and I'm pretty sure it's more than just some horns.

.

And I like the unreleased better. For what little that's worth.

The same song, but with different vocals. They are called guide vocals.

He added the horns later as he likes to do. Prefer the boot version.

Okay--so he redid the vocals. That explains (more than just horns) why it's so uninterestingly smooth. It felt like more than just horns.

What's interesting is that the piano intro of Cocker means P didn't send him the "final" TVOF4S version or if he did, it was another edit of it with the piano intro left on it.

I remember rumors that P had submitted Old Friends 4 Sale '91 to Cocker at the same time as 5W, but there's no mention of it on Pvault. Anyone else heard this rumor?
