Prince and the Music Video.

Is the music video dead for Prince? Does he not care anymore, especially since he doesn't allow all of his iconic music videos on YouTube and neglects the best way to promote and get exposure for an artist using the inernet...

Since I don't consider Breakfast Can Wait or those SNL rehash vids like AnotherLove and Marz... Prince hasn't filmed a music video for his album since 2009... Even when he did film recent music videos in 2012 it was for no purpose in support of no album like Rock and Roll Love Affair and Screwdriver... Do you think he is finished with music videos in general?

My guess is no - I doubt he is finished with music videos in general.

However, he has for a long time made videos which may not necessarily have had commercial promotion of the song as the primary purpose. I suspect he will carry on doing what he wants to do regardless of promotional intent, including making videos when the fancy takes him.

"Since 2009" ???
What about "Fix Ur Life Up"? from a couple years back? Technically, that was on an album... The video just happened to be released months (ok, a year) before the album was released

It would be nice to see a little more interaction and storytelling in his recent vids. No SNL, no lyric vids. Something in the range of Black Sweat, Somebodys Somebody, Te Amo Corazon, Sexy MF, etc.

The vid for rock and roll love affair is actually pretty decent and tastefully. BTW is a little silly for my taste...but its an actual video as well. The vid for screwdriver is a lyric video...so I unno about that...at least it hipped me to the lyrics. I hate fixurlifeup and hate the video for itneven a little more.....but its an actual video as well.

Prince hasn't had an assload of videos lately....but he's had them for sure. Not sure where the OP is coming from...cuz there's videos out there. There was even a video for a lotusflow3r track....crimson and clover. No official vids for anything on AOA though...iirc.

This could be us and Time are ripe for videos in my opinion.

Time I see a video of P on tour somewhere in a hotel room calling Andy on his iPhone face time and Andy(or random girl) using her iPhone with an appleTV go forward the image to a big flat screen. Images of them in different scenarios communicating over the phones.

A good performance vid a la "call my name" with penicl images or water color images interspersed throughout the performance/stage clips.

That will never happen. Remember, he doesn't have an iPhone (or so he says). LOL!

But im pretty sure there is a great load of videos for AOA and PE that he has not released. Just like the litttle video snippet we saw in the Yahoo Album Release Party. Oh yeah and I like the "iPhone" idea that someone just mentioned. But being Prince, he could opt to use a device never before seen in his video, like an electric transparent projection of a skype chat or something that pops in front of his face whenever he has a message. Just my little 2 cents.

videos are dead for everyone. tv doesnt play them anymore, so your not getting paid for them. they used to be a promotional tool, but it doesnt pay to show them for free online because people are already downloading your music for free online. theres no financial upside to making videos anymore.

I think they get some money, because of ads. It depends on the views how much they get per video.

yes. but in that way you have to already have people wanting to see it. rather than it being shown on tv where millions of people saw it no matter if they wanted to or not, like a commercial. it just doesnt add up to much finacially these days like it used to.

I would love to buy the official dvd-compilation-boxset with all Prince music videoes in it.

In case it would see the light of day.

Thats how old-fashioned I am... actually spending money on the music.. wink eek

However: I guess it is all too late now... because of the internet such a set would not sell that many copies.

In other words this boxset will never happen..! sad sad sad sad sad sad sad sad sad sad

Sign "O" The Times is a lyric video too - do we not count that? There is also an official lyric video for FunkNRoll that I believe is the version from AOA.

I created a blog embeding all the (few, in fact) official Prince videos available on official YT channels (artists, labels, Vevo or authorized third parties), but IDK if I can post the link here, I mean everything is legit but I remember instances when the mods have forbade posting official links, so IDK.
