"Prince Could Write That In His Sleep"

-

Through the years I would hear that phrase when talking about a Prince song. I've always thought to myself: Which songs of his did he not write or produce by the numbers and required more thought?

-

I know, no one here can get in his head and know this answer but based on your knowledge, which songs would you probably consider "Prince could write in his sleep" versus other songs that required more out of him.....

-

You could respond Sleep or Not Sleep or however you'd like of course.... wink

Songs like The Work, Get On The Boat, easy ones for him, while When Doves Cry, Moonbeam Levels, Shockadelica, hard ones.

Call me crazy but I've always thought songs like, "Get On The Boat" were lazy James Brown tributes. I would think "WDC" would have been easy but that's just me. It's strengths lies in its simplicity.

Girl. Seems like no thought went into that one. Probably the laziest b-side from '84/'85.
The expanded version of my book PRINCE and The Purple Rain Era Studio Sessions 1983-1984 was released in November 2018. (www.amazon.com/gp/product/1538114623/ref=dbs_a_def_rwt_bibl_vppi_i0) or www.facebook.com/groups/1...104195943/

Yes, that's why he called them easy.

WDC: the complexity is in the arrangement/instrumentation.

Rockhard is hardly a song though.

In his sleep: "Poom Poom", "Mr.Goodnight", "U Know", "Hot Wit U", "Round And Round", "The Max", "We March", "I Will", "Slave", " Push It Up".

None of those songs he struggled with to come up with I reckon

Somehow I had missed Girl completely until a few years ago. I think it is a very pleasant tune and I really like it. Wouldn't call it lazy in any way.

RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...
