Show some love for "Jukebox With A Heartbeat"

I loved this song when it was part of one of the Ahdio shows during the NPGMC era. Was reminded of it recently and played it a few times since. I really like it a lot with the Linn beat, it is a really nice funky popsong. What do y'all think of Jukebox With A Heartbeat?

RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

Had it seen a proper download release, it would be a highlight of the NPGMC era! I am so bummed that all we have is an edit from the Ahdio show it was in (I made my own) - it suffers from the low bitrate quality of the show. But, it was played in its entirety and not just a snippet, so that's a big plus.

.

Musically, I find it really similar to Props N Pounds, but it's NOTHING like that song thanks to better lyrics. It has such a great groove, very smooth.

.

I could do without the countless car engine sound effects that smatter this whole era of his music.

.

The chorus on this one - a bit of a chant sort of like Supercute, which is also great.

.

Overall, thumbs up from me. Another orphaned song that's long forgotten. Sad.

Cool track but he has made plenty in the same vein, lamenting his lack of airplay. A lot of truth to the lyrics though. Funny thing is the same payolla scam he's complaining of probably helped launch his career.

Although the payola thing is despicable and there is a lot of truth in the words to this song, I still am not comfortable with Prince complaining about getting no airplay in songs. It makes him come off as a bit of a spoiled little kid. But the groove of this song is very pleasant, and I consider this song one of the highlights of the NPGMC era.

Love the groove and melody of this song but wish it had lyrics that are easier to relate to. I understand and appreciate how personal the lyrics are and see where he´s coming from but he´s written so many lyrics about payola, pleasing his audience or his contract situation that I wish this great groove and melody had lyrics that everybody can relate to because it is such a great groove and for some reason it fell under the radar, which is unfortunate.

Total jam. Great beat and groove. Being from Minneapolis, I can't help but shout along with the, "when I'm in the Twiiiiiin Cityyyys..." part. cool

Love it. Funky, poignant title, poetic jab at the music biz then and now. All around good.

Yes, I like it too. But strange it never had its own download, only part of the ahdio show. It's kind of an oddity in that.

it's alright for a track squirrelled away in an Audio show. other than, fairly bland and unimpressive, like a lot of the material from that same era.

One of the the only songs I like from that era along with underneath the cream.
It has great production.his tones in the verses are light and different than usual.
The chorus is catchy and he really goes off vocally at end with the whole
"Livin in the twin Cities!!!" Rant he does.
