Favorite albums vs. Most played

I find that the Prince albums I listen to most aren't necessarily my favorite albums. I bias a bit towards more recent albums, and of course it depends what songs are on my iphone or not.

So what are your favorite 3 albums and what 3 have you listened to most in the past six months?

Favorites
1999
Controversy
Lovesexy

Most listened in past 6 months
Art Official Age
1999
Musicology

I'm really mixed about AOA, yet I listen to it a lot.

See, that's interesting. Why do you think your most listened to are different from your favorites?

I think its more about mood or just coming across an album I haven't listened to in quite a while that gets put back in rotation. And after further thought, I would choose Purple Rain over The Gold Experience; so 2 of my Prince favorites I do listen to the most.

"Newpower Soul" has gotten A LOT of spins over the years (more than 1999 or Gold Experience) while I know it's one of his weakest albums. Weird.

I would like to say this right here:

Go listen to the entire "20Ten" album in order, uninterrupted, and preferably at max volume.

I believe you will be very pleasantly surprised, and very entertained.

Top 3:

The Rainbow Children

Parade

Lovesexy

Most listened to:

Batman Soundtrack

The Gold Experience

MPLSound

This is a very weird discovery that most lists are matching. However for me I can't listen to the Rainbow Children all the time. It's too heady and too much is going on. It's like a fine wine that should only be enjoyed on special occasions.

I actually listened to this album today for the first time in like 3 years and it finally clicked. It's similar to MPLSound (I love that album!). You are right, I was pleasantly surprised. Beginning Endlessly and Future Soul Song are shimmering with beauty they brought tears to my eyes!

1999 is my favorite AND most played. Exodus is the one I like the most but play the least. I hope I'm understanding the question.

Batman, Newpower Soul and Rave are no way near my favourite albums, but they are probably some of my 'most played' albums. I find them fun. Plus they each have a high degree of sentimental value to me (I was obsessed with the Batman movie as a kid, Newpower Soul was the most recent album when I started getting into Prince, and Rave was the first I remember anticipating and buying the week it was released).

My favourites would be 1999 and Lovesexy.

In the past 6 months, I've had AOA, Plectrum Electrum, Emancipation, and The Hits CDs in my car... so they've probably got the most spins during that time. That said, I haven't been listening to a lot of Prince for a while now.

yessir....ive been a fan since day 1, and "My Love Is Forever" and "Im Yours" are STILL my alltime favorite Prince songs...i always enjoyed listening to the hunger and ambition of artists on their debut albums...seems that those are usually an artists most honest and revealing works, since they have a lifetime (up til that point) of experience to draw from, to create that first album...and just the overall sound of the album...the layered synths...the underrated drumming and bass playing...the clean falsetto... and on a personal note, the girl i lost my virginity with, always had that album playing when i would go to visit her, so even though i tried to "hate" on the album at first, because she would go on and on about how pretty he was, i got hooked on the music quickfast.... IMO "My Love Is Forever" is the greatest song ever made by anyone....

... no disrespect to Earth Wind & Fire's catalog...
