ATWIAD or Parade AWTIAD or Parade?
Both were very transitional albums for Prince musically, they were very good albums imo.
Which do you prefer, the Phsycadelic sound of ATWIAD or Euro Funk of Parade? | |

hands down ATWIAD. I like 5 songs on Around the World(title track, Paisley Park, Raspberry Beret, America, Poplife) vs 3 songs on Parade(mountains, anotherlover, girls and boys) so my vote goes with Around the World in a Day. [Edited 5/24/15 5:48am] | |

For me there is a very clear winner in this one. One of these albums is my favourite Prince album, the other, I can take or leave most of it. My Winner? ATWIAD RIP  | |

Parade is my favorite album by anyone, ever. ATWIAD is a masterpiece. But it can't top my favorite. "Drop that stereo before I blow your Goddamn nuts off, asshole!"

I still can't get over the fact Prince laid down the drum tracks for the first 4 songs on Parade in one shot. Brilliant. "The password is what." |

ATWIAD is an excellent album, but Parade is one of the best albums of all time. Hundalasiliah! |

Thats a hard one for me. Both have 3-4 really strong songs on it. the rest are filler or "zu abgefahren"...
Parade has its pearls: Girls and boys, kiss, Anotherlover, sometimes its snows...than the good ones...new position and mountains...the rest is meh...like Prince once said, he isnt very satisfied with the whole album. I can understand his opinion. I feel the same way too. there maybe good ideas on it, but that doesnt make it a good record. maybe you have to be a musician to undersand it? I dont know.
Around the world - has: around the world, respberry beret, pop life, Tamborine, paisley park...and the rest is ok...
i go with Sign o the times.

I'd defintely go with Parade. It's a brilliant album and could've been even better with the inclusion of Old Friends 4 Sale, the instrumental version of An Honest Man, Alexis de Paris and Love or $. As is, it's still one of my favorites. | |

No, I am not a newbie! Fan since 1991, but im not prince-blind/deaf anymore. He made lot of great tracks, but also tons of .. Avarage/shit songs even in the golden 80s. Around/parade are masterpiece in this little prince world, thats for sure, but not with the masses.and definitly not with me. said:

I've posted before about my thoughts on ATWIAD and PR. From a broader view, there's nothing on ATWIAD that you can't really find on PR. IMO, ATWIAD is more or less "Purple Rain Part II". . There IS a sound on Parade that is not on any previous Prince album, which is why I would vote for Parade over ATWIAD.

For me the big album of the 80 are purple rain and sott. 1999 has 4 great songs(little red, 1999, dmsr, somerhing in the water) the rest is very boring because all tracks are way too long (i never liked that album). Lovesexy has 3 great songs. The same with batmam...i rather like records like lovesymbol, come, musicology, 3121, gold, great pop/funk/rocksongs. thedance said: ^ Wow, I mean really..... really...??

I can't choose. 2 very different albums 2 of my top 3 favorite albums Just so very different. best videos, 2(out of the 3 fav albums) with the best long versions/b-sides etc

I'll give my vote to Parade, but only by a hair. It was such a dramatic departure from the sound of his previous 3-4 albums. Points for bravery go to Parade, and that's the difference for me. Both are in the middle of perhaps the most brilliant 6-album stretch known to mankind. And those 6 albums (1999 through Lovesexy) don't even contain all the incredible tracks recorded during that timeframe. I don't like ATWIAD, I don't like the title track, I didn't like Prince hairdo in Rasberry Beret, I don't like the ballad, I don't like the videos. But then again.........Fucking Poplife is on that record and suddenly all my arguments are invalid and therefore ATWIAD wins by default. Come on guys, if it has Poplife in there it's hard to see it lose to Parade. | |

BTW I've read b4 that P reportedly claimed he wasn't so happy with Parade (an unusual thing for him to say, he's usually his biggest fan) but I could never find out what he said exactly and in which interview, to the point where I wonder if it's a urban legend or what.
