THE PRINCE PODCAST - What If Morris Day Never Left The Prince Camp?

In this episode of The Prince Podcast, we take a look at an alternate reality where Morris Day never left the Prince camp.

What sort of ramifications would this have had? The Time opening on the Purple Rain tour, The Family, Under The Cherry Moon with Morris and Jesse Johnson’s solo career.

I agree, it would have been cool if there was this Time movie and Prince had another but all in the same setting. And if this lady stayed on this image below overflows with 1986 Under the Cherry Moon

Not that photo of Morris, but the silk pajama/evening jacket/tux throw in a few ruffled shirts 1985/86 look would have been perfect for the Time

It would not have worked. Morris can't carry an entire film. His comedic pimp routine would wear thin in as the primary character. In all of the roles Morris has ever had in TV or movies, he has been the same guy: Morris Day.

And Prince, who can he play!

1. Prince the self obsessed star (Prince in SOTT and any made for video release of the 80s, 90s and 2000's)

2. Prince the tortured and annoyed fawn who has a few struggles, but finds true love and some other sugary ending in a goody 2 shoes fashion. (The Kid in Purple Rain and Graffiti Bridge)

3. Prince the wannabe Morris Day Style pimp who falls in love (Christopher Tracy)

4. Prince as himself.

.

I think Morris could pull off other characters had he applied himself including CT. In real life I doubt Morris was a jive ass wannabe pimp and ladiez man, all that schtick was an act he did as the larger than life leader of the Time. But I see your point when Morris had serious substance abuse issues by this stage.

Obviously he would have to be more than that aspect of the character. I suspect the movie would have more than just Morris & Jerome if the Time was the main leads. UTCM as we know it was a Prince vanity project. The Revolution should have been in the film along with others ie the Family Sheila E
