Can we as Orgers combine forces to book Prince for a private concert?

I'm a Prince fan.

I don't post on the org a lot, but I do occasionally, and it is usually of the "if you don't like Prince, don't support Prince" variety, including concerts, bootlegs, etc. Why follow or support Prince just to keep complaining about him, his work, his religion, his personality.

Having said that, I too wouldn't mind going to a Prince concert with no sampler set, and obscure, rarely played gems.

Is there no way for us to make it worth Prince's wild to make that happen?

Unless there are a BUNCH of people on the org that routinely lie about their Prince devotion and their concert attendance over the years, there are many people who can put up some real skins to meet Prince's concert demands.

Last I read, it costs about $2,000,000 to book Prince. I have no problem putting up $1,000 on Kickstarter (or whatever) to get to that $2,000,000. It would only take 2,000 people (at $1,000) to get to that $2,000,000. It only makes sense that the more you pay, the closer you get to the stage. Maybe the maximum pay-in is $20,000. (You can pay-in $20,000 if you like, but it only gets you one ticket - just really, really close.) Obviously, the more high buy-ins, the less people will be needed to reach the goal.

One of the main caveats of this concert, however, is that all songs performed are voted on by the people who paid into the Kickstarter (at a minimum of $1,000). That way, I am going to assume that Let's Go Crazy, Play That Funky Music White Boy, and songs of that ilk won't make it in. Maybe the setlist is comprised of the top 10 songs voted - more specifically - full versions of the top 10 songs voted.

I understand there are many, many variables. I will touch on a few.

When would the concert be? (Let's say 18 months from the Kickstarter close.)

Where would the concert be? (Democracy rules; the location most voted upon by buy-ins.)

What venue would the concert take place? (With an 18 month headstart, and a good idea of the amount of people that would attend, I think we could definitely rent a club or a private hall.)

What about security? (I assume security would depend on amount of people and type of location where the performance takes place.)

How much more than $2,000,000 will we need to rent a location and rent security, etc? (?)

Anyway, I have thought about this a few times over the years. I don't know much about Kickstarter or concert preparation, but I sure am willing to help make this happen somehow. This could be one of life's great memories.

Is this at all feasible?

I think it would be historic and precedent-setting if Prince offered to play for all Orgers sometime.

Kind of like a Celebration, but you have to have an active Org account to attend.

You never know. Maybe he'll read this post and get inspired.

$1,000 is a real sacrifice. I bet it would be a once-in-a-lifetime type of event, though.

Obviously, I don't know how many can really afford it, but there are many, many people on here who claim to have gone to dozens of Prince concerts (and many of those were in different cities and/or states and/or countries from where they live). If that's the case, $1,000 or more may not be so wild an idea.

I'd rather not pay so much myself, but I'm willing to do it, if this can actually happen.

I think he would find out who was behind the Kickstarter and then tell us to go duck ourselves. (Duck, not fuck.) He has no love for the Org.

It would be scary if such a thing ever happened.

Would someone (kcoolmuziq)harm Prince or would Prince harm us. We do not need to find out.

That would be nice but.......................

  1. Where would the location be?
  2. Folks cough up money to pay him to perform and then those same fans have to cough up money for their air fare, hotel, etc., on top of paying the fee?

Highly unlikely that he would do this but maybe the first step would be to somehow communicate with Prince to see if he would even entertain the possibility. If somehow / someway he replied favorably, the org would be more energized and we'd probably raise more money versus if we didn't even know if he'd consider it.

Does anybody even know how to communicate with Prince? Would we do it via Twitter or is there more of a professional manner to correspond?

It would be feasible on one condition: the orgers who can't afford $1000 for the live experience can get access to the UHD/360/HiFi live IMAX stream in IMAX theaters all over the world for $100 and later on buy the Bluray for their Oculus.

The first thing we need is an effective kidnapping team.

We could get a lowlife squad for the 10th of the budget.

Still, for $200, it'd better a be in an abandoned subway station with GOOD acoustics.

Not everyone could/would agree on a time/date, hotel, airfare, rent a car, and then there's the man himself. Security, parking, set list.... Prince could get a more lucritive offer anytime.... but if it does happen, somehow, I'll pitch in an extra $50 if I get to grease him up with body lotion kiss2

Even if it meant putting in only $500, the idea of entering any sort of financial arrangement or contract or informal agreement whatsoever with Prince is enough to give me hives. On my nutz.

The only way to make this work would be to have the concert here in Zambia. It would cost every orger (except me) pretty much the same amount of money to get here, no matter where you are coming from. Accommodation costs would be even accross the board (except for me). And i will accommodate Prince and the band at my place in return for my share of the concert fee.

So, whilst on the surface it looks like a win win for me, it really is a win win for everybody and the sacrifices I make will be made on behalf of all orgers.

So are we settled on that then? smile

1.The Paisley Park idea is one to think about. Prince might be more comfortable in his own environment and more likely to agree to the performance.

2. Always a nuisance, but yep, same as always - if you don't live where the concert is being held.

Some people on the org certainly sound well connected; maybe some of those people can touch base with their contacts? I would certainly think professional contact with a manager or advisor would show more conviction.

Only if Prince agrees to go with us on safari to Kafue or Luangwa. I really wonder how he'd be camping out in the open. Damn! You make me wanna go on safari again! wink

I do see a possible issue - how many people would say I'm not paying $1,000 for the live experience if I can just go see it on IMAX. The Kickstarter might be seriously undercut - at least if announced as a condition. But, maybe not...

Maybe the people who buy-in to the Kickstarter get a video of the show?

I saw the Musicology tour back in 2004 on an official live simulcast that was held in select theaters. I didn't see the real concert until later that year. They even gave away the free Musicology slip-cover CDs at the theaters . . . I think I ended up with 5 copies that year.
