Earlier this year when I saw Prince at the Autism Rocks show at Koko in London, one thing that struck me was when, during the sampler set, Prince let the "Darling Nikki" groove run much longer than any other time he's played it, and stood there with a big grin on his face. I said at the time that it really seemed like he wanted to sing it.

Well, last night in Toronto he took it a step further, letting the groove run and then actually singing "I knew a girl named...." before cutting into the next track.

Prince, if you want to sing the song, then sing it. Is "Nikki" really that bad in the grand scheme of things? Nobody expects you to bust out with a medley of "Sister" and "Head", but it certainly seems like you wanna sing Nikki, so just go for it And preferably do it next time you're in the UK

It's become as much a part of his live shtick as "I wrote this song while looking in the mirror". He'll be playing the entire of Sexy MF again and he'll still be doing the Darling Nikki bit

I agree, he actually played Erotic City at the LotusFlow3r listening party (no singing) and then cut into another song

I wish someone would interview Sheila E the right way, and ask why she is cool doing songs like Erotic City, Olivers House etc now

I´m probably in the minority here but I find his late 90s to present material much more explicit and disturbing than any of his 80s classics.

Sure, Darling Nikki mentions masturbation and Erotic City has the f-word in it, and Sister is a bit over the top but come on, his newer material after he became interested in the JWs is much more disgusting.

The sexual innuendo is still there. But it was a bit more subtle in his classics. Sure, there are lots of exceptions but all in all, I always found his old sexy lyrics a tad more mature than his more recent lyrics, which seem to come across as controversial for the sake of being controversial. Or maybe he really IS into that kind of stuff, who knows.

Give me Erotic City, Rockhard in a Funky Place, Scandalous, Darling Nikki or Lady Cab Driver any day instead of his pseudo-tamed lyrics.

Regarding his lyrics, I find that most of his sexually charged lyrics come across as a tad too forced these days, like he´s trying to live up to his image or people´s expectations.

Agreed...tho I think he's rightfully worried about how to do it and not come off as a creepy old man ---

I think he could do it with a shadow screen (like the superbowl performance) - it could be done really well....he should let me produce/art direct it....
