Better With Time After reading some of the threads here today I decided to give my MPLSound vinyl another whirl today and man!
1. I finally read the lyrics to Better With Time and when Prince started singing the last line in that song I found myself crying. It is such a sentimental and genuine song between two friends. I can't believe I slept on that song so long. I would love to hear it live. A flawless song.
2. I use to not like Valentina and Ol' Skool Company now I quite dig them, I was shaking my ass to those janks.
3. Time to reconfigure my Prince album rankings....this albu is moving on up! | |

good for you Aaron. I concur, well for me MPLS was never so hated. Better With Time is STELLAR! An all time top 10 ballad for me and one of his best in recent years (right along with SHOE from PE), its no wonder Maxwell tweeted about it when that album was out. Glad you're listening with fresh ears! How do you like Here? I think its a genius little ditty too. | |

my only real problems with MPLSound are the title (the album doesnt have the MPLS sound at all!) and the awful first track. Otherwise its like two very good EP'S in one.
One is a pretty good R&B lite-funk EP with tracks like Box of Chocolates, ol Skool Company, Dance 4 Me and the other is a excellent Easy Listening EP with Here, Better With Time, and U R Gonna C Me.

It is a great ballad that captures the love/hate relationship from a female's point of view a la If I Was Your Girlfriend. SHOE is great as well it's the best track on Planet Earth. MPLSound is a flawless album though. I dance my butt off to the first track. | |

I love this song as well, until those bombastic timps come in at the end. Note to Prince: if you want to tell a lady how beautiful she is, DON'T say it with timps. |

Then maybe that "MPLSound" title could've been used for a 3 disc set of previously unreleased material that was the best Minneapolis Sound tracks in the vault. one thing that bugs me is the line about wine... that is nearly totally not true. Wine doesn't get better with age or time... after it is done doing its thing. Some wines will change a little the fist few years but so will a well made and properly aged beer.
the myth seems to be rooted in how some of the best wines are old. But that is because they were good to begin with (a good year) so they are more valuable so they are kept longer. But it is not so much the wine's age but how good it was when it was made that makes a good wine good. "Keep on shilling for Big Pharm!" |
