"Eye know" "Le grind"

Listen to "Eye Know" then listen to "Le Grind",is it me or is the horn part the same, only the notes played on "Eye know"are played faster than on "le grind".

Eye No = 1 2 3 4 5 - 1 2 3 4 5
Le Grind = 1 2 3 4 5 - 1 2 3 4 5 6
...or however you write that. lol

Yup, I get what you're saying. It's as if the horn bit from Eye No had each note extended and ended up in Le Grind. Not exactly, but pretty close. G

I'm hearing the similarity! It's a horn announcement that bend up in the phrase, 5 syllables in Eye No and 4 syllables in Le grind, but that first note is just hit twice in Eye No.

In Le Grind it sounds like the announcement is derailing or getting tired.

But music is not about the exact notes in my opinion, it's about the gesture, the emotional intention.

That's why you can have an instrumental cover of a song with completely different notes and key and timing... but still recognize it.

How so?

It's the tone of it, slower and hanging at a more level space in the song. I don't mean that in a bad way, I mean that Le Grind sounds like a big lumbering circus, while Eye No is this weird sped up, bright, shout. (and I'm referring to the horn lines) But Eye No has some synth in it too on that line, doesn't it?

But when I used the word "derailed" I'm referring to the latter third of Le Grind where the horn line is brought back in and it sounds a little bit off kilter, dissonant or minor and softer.

I'd have to post the exact excerpts and replay them on a keyboard to reallty illustrate what I mean.

But I really look at music in a narrative way, so insturments are like actors speaking lines. Those lines can have different moods and intentions depending on how they are spoken, and the song is the whole story.

I see! Wonderful description. I thought perhaps you were making a statement about the quality of the arrangement. I think it's spot on as a description of two arrangements that are quite similar note for note, but very different in tone and feel.
