Gimme Your Love - Paisley Park remix

Aretha Franklin's album, Through the Storm, seems to have quietly slipped out late last year in a deluxe 2 CD re-release. While not a great album, it did include one song, a duet between Aretha and James Brown, Gimme Your Love, which Prince, as Pailsey Park, remixed for the 12" vinyl single. For 25 years it was only available on that format - no cassette, no CD till now.

I hadn't seen any mention about it here. The song is not that great, but what is cool is hearing Prince interject synth squeals and distorted scream/effects a la the Batdance and Alphabet St. 12" mixes. I'll bet he's responsible for the drums/programming and some other instrumentation too. If you're a completist, might want to check this out. And, hey...it's Prince producing James Brown and Aretha Franklin. Kind of historic and monumental in and of itself.

It looks like the CD 5" 662 727 that I mentioned is UK (not on the list above) and came out the same time as:

UK PS 12" vinyl 612 727

which I think I must have bought at the same time

Wow, I never knew there was a CD single out in 89. Funny this track never shows up in various 12" associated artist fan-made collections.

Thanks for the post. I kinda forgotten about this track. It's been probably since the early 2000's since I last listened to it. I was always kinda surprised it never made an artist-related comp myself. I just dont think alot of fans know about this.

Thanks so much for the heads UP!!

This one has always eluded me. Nice to have all the mixes in one place. wink
