If Lovesexy is a 10, which I think it is, imo The Black Album is an 8.

If you've got funk, you've got style.

Sorry but it's not a fair question. They are the mirror images of each other. "I got two sides, and there both friends!"

Both!

The Black Album! Funky, funny partay album.

Lovesexy is good, but I don't play it near as much as Black Album.

So,"The Black Album" is a "party album" ?! I've never got that label.

What the hell kind of party would feature "TBA"!? That would be a weird party. "Bob George", "When 2 R In Love"...party on!

"Lovesexy" is like "Return Of The Jedi"--it doesnt really do it for me (but has good moments). Bigger highs than "TBA". "TBA" has mistique but lacks heart.

Depends on which day you ask me. Somedays I prefer one over the other. BUT, I will say that TBA is better for those who like great, funky party albums, but Lovesexy is better for those who enjoy a more interesting and more intense musical experience. (Not to say that TBA isn't intense, but you know what I mean. razz)

We played the shit out of that bootleg at parties back in high school. This is when Prince was sorta on his way out in the US, but friends loved the Black album....esp Bob George, Superfunky...,and Rock Hard in a Funky Place. I couldn't sell Lovesexy at parties to save my life and believe me I tried. Eye No just didn't fly like Le Grind did for 17/18 year olds. I still think TBA is a hell of a lot more fun than Lovesexy anyday.

Lovesexy is an album that's not easy to understand at first. It's not disposable party music. There's a message there...a theme.Prince described it as "like a psychedelic movie" and he's absolutely right.

TBA is all fun and games (nothing wrong with that),but Lovesexy is something entirely different. It's a journey.

Interesting--we also had a guy making casette copies of "TBA" in High School for anyone who wanted it--that was my 1st copy.

In 1988, I certainly played the hell out of it on my Walkman & preferred it to "Lovesexy". It was edgier, meaner, funkier, mysterious.

My 2015 ears think time has been kinder to "Lovesexy" as certain tracks have stood the test of time. You're right that "TBA" is more "fun"

They're both amazing, and I really love the story he did on the tour involving him dying and then giving his life to God. They're both pretty much equal imo.. one is a dirty funk record and one is a more pure dance-pop record. I honestly think he should have combined both into a double album masterpiece, but there's no way Warner would have said yes to that in 1988 one year after Sign

Maybe eye do, just not like eye did before pimp2
