Missed opportunities - The US Prince tours that SHOULD of happened!

I have been listening to allot of Prince music as of late and the one thing that still baffels me 20+ years later... Is why Prince never toured the US in support of Sign of the Times? This clearly is more versatile than Lovesexy and had more hits...Summer of 87' would of been amazing!

Diamond and Pearls was the most commerically successful album he released in years..instead he gave us the prince album and toured in small venues... again D&P had more hits... Fall of 1991 would of been amazing!

Lastly... I think a full blown tour of the Gold Experience album would of been awesome! Instead we got the cheesey ass Jam of the Year tour. For all of his talk of of unreleased music and how much he hyped up TGE... very disappointing....

Prince's biggest mistake "sign o' the times" era.
He puts out the right singles & tours in the U.S.
That album would've sold 5 million

OP: 'of happened' ?

.

Clearly a tour in the past decade without the hits. Or at least limited to a bare minimum. (two songs per evening)

Be it in the US or elsewhere does not matter; it is to show a principle.

Sold 4 million world wide...

His best album imp, it wasn't promoted correctly... That album should have been a 10m plus seller.

I agree that the tour that should of happened and would of been awesome is "Sign've The Times"...

I agree as well. I cannot help but point out that it's should HAVE, not OF. You are correct in your assessment of this situation in every other aspect.

I'm just saying...

HAHAHAHA

I clicked on this JUST to correct the 'of' and I was pleased to see that so many others beat me to it.

Yours is the most hilarious by far.

There definitely should have been a U.S. SOTT tour in the fall of '87.There was so much momentum with that album!

The Diamonds and Pearls tour should have made its way to the U.S. as well.

If SOTT was the follow up to Purple Rain, and had Kiss as the first single, followed by SOTT, U Got The Look, I Could Never, then maybe Raspberry Beret...then yes...it would have sold tons...but Prince had flooded the market with album after album, tons of singles, tons of videos, overexposure like crazy. And then the Under The Cherry Bomb movie...as much as I like it as corny fun....was a BIG HUGE NUCLEAR FUC*$%G BOMB ON HIS CAREER...making him the butt of jokes in the entire entertainment industry....

So it never would have sold. Concert Tours do help album sales a bit, but not everybody who buys albums goes to concerts...and double albums always had a stigma to them with the price.

But had it been the follow up to Purple Rain with all the great material on the albums...then sure.

This is a great thread. Not only are we not seeing any remasters and vault tracks. Now we can also mourn all the things we didn't get in the past (and which could only have happened at the specific point in time)....

Replying several days late, but I agree with you when you say he should have toured more.. I remember reading somewhere that he got really annoyed when the Lovesexy shows didn't completely sell out in America, which is why he stopped touring there for at least 5 years. Even though it would have helped him commercially, I wasn't alive back then to attend so I'm just glad we have videos lol

Maybe eye do, just not like eye did before pimp2
