Top 5 Prince Covers

So there is a lot of people who tried covering one or two of Prince's songs.

Me included tried it...

And also included are artists, Prince offeredsongs to cover.

But who who would you think did the best?

My Top 5:

  1. I Feel For You by Chaka Kan

  2. Manic Monday by the Bangles

  3. Kiss by Tom Jones & the Art of Noise

  4. Nothing Compares 2 U by Sinead o'Conner

  5. 5 Women by Joe Cocker

How Come U don't Call me Anymore by Alica Keys also fits the bill, I think. A little too much tho.

But what do YOU Think?

Good choice!

But Ani di Franco would be an even better candidate with her version I think

Tom Jones is really great and he introduced the horns to Kiss

He made it a bigger classic than it was already

Sure, it's no Prince, duh, cuz it's Tom Jones and the Art of Noise. razz

Muse always irritated me, but I have to say their Sign O the Times version is pretty heartfelt.

The Colors R brighter, the Bond is much tighter
No Child's a failure
Until the Blue Sailboat sails him away from his dreams
Don't Ever Lose, Don't Ever Lose
Don't Ever Lose Your Dreams

As usual Bart, technically speaking, you are right. I give you that.

So I agree with you that in the strict definition of the term these are not 'covers'.

But only because Prince or somebody else, didn't release these tracks first.

However, I am sure Prince must have recorded, yet not released these tunes, some time before Joe and the Bangles did.

Wouldn't you think the same, since he wrote these songs?

And what would be your favourite 'covers'?

Funny, I guess: Ani's cover of Wne you were mine is on youtube, but the sound of Foo Fighter's cover of Darling Nikki has been suppressed, because of an "underlying" copyrightclaim.

I hhave heard it before tho and was not so impressed.

I am going to check out the Raspbery beret covers.

oh, wait a second, anybody ever heard Tina Turner's cover of Let's pretend we're married?

I think she performed it live.

Probably not a cover either in the technical sense Bart, but still she played it.

I prefer TLC's cover of 'get it up', if I was you girlfriend is still good but I think the original kind of feel of the song with Camille singing was lost in the cover (and any other really, it's just one of those songs)

Co-sign. That's a great cover but the vocals are weak. Never heard it before.

Wasn't there a whole album of various artists covering Prince? I seem to remember Ice-T covering "Head".
