My Top Prince songs! (So far)

Whenever I think of what my favorite Prince songs are, it's hard to chose exactly which they are. So for this I chose some songs that mean the most to me..
So it goes from 1 - 10...
1) Orgasm
PSYCHE lol
For real, my favorites:
1) I Would Die 4 U
For me, the reason that this is my favorite song of his is because of my memories with this. When I was younger and just had Purple Rain, this was my favorite song to dance to. This performance in the movie was magic when I first saw it! It made me ADORE Prince as a dancer and performer! Since I've seen it, I always dance my ass off when this is on! The energy and the meaning. You can take it two ways.. 1) it's about Jesus Christ dying for you and your sins (that's the real meaning in it, I guess.) 2) you can think about or sing with your love ones and friends with this song!
Ever since I first heard it, it's always been my favorite honestly. It means a lot to me and the time of when I first heard it.
2) ExtraLoveable (both versions)
This song obviously lays down the funk. When I listen to this song, it's an instant confidence-booster for me! Anyone, listen to this song, get into it, and then go out and look for a girl to pick up or try to talk to a girl you've been liking for a while.. Now don't repeat the lines to her obviously lol she'll probably think your weird. But this (at least for me) turns my confidence up to the MAX and I feel unstoppable.
3) Controversy
Omg, this (AND the music video) is the thing that made me a real deeper fan and made me understand and APPRECIATE his risqué style! The vibe of the song, the atmosphere of this era made me fall in love with this song. And the first time I heard it, I hadn't listened to the previous albums, nor have I learned or researched the rich history of his controversy. So my first impressions of this song made me think about myself around this time. I don't wanna go too deep but the lyrics "Do I believe in God? Do I believe in me?" This song and others from the Controversy and Dirty Mind albums open my mind about stuff I didn't understand when I was younger...
4) International Lover
This is my favorite ballad (well obviously but I just wanted to say that lol)
I just love the whole feeling of this song, and especially the lyrics. Another song that boosts my confidence.
5) If I Was Your Girlfriend
One word (well name) CAMILLE!
this is a strange song and very different regarding the atmosphere... and the gender mix (idk what to call it but you get the idea) is brilliant!! I love the beginning and I really love his speech at the end. The last thing I'll say is that the meaning of a guy wanting to be a girls boyfriend AND girlfriend is wonderful.
6) Electric Intercourse
If this song was in better quality or even released (doesn't have to be in PR remaster, just maybe like a re-work like what P did with ExtraLoveable) then this would be higher on the list or possibly over International Lover. But again, BOOSTS my confidence.. smile
7) Letitgo
This song just hit me hard, oh and I just love it when he goes "come a little closer"... that's all I'll say lol it's brilliant
8) We Can Fuck
I wrote it like that for a reason, I LOVE the 83 original.. Just fantastic. Again if the original was in better quality, then it would be higher on the list. And I love Andy Allo's "Oui Can Luv" version of this.
9) Crystal Ball
OMG. Clare Fischer just did an AMAZING job! RIP Mr, Fischer!I just love his work. If more people heard this, like this general public, and maybe if he released this as a single. Then he might have got a bunch of awards and recognition of how much of a genius he truly is! Sadly, after he leaves this world, that's when I think the mainstream, modern, general public will realize how more he is than "Purple Rain". Then the whole world will realize what they loss and what they had.. Again, I'm talking about the general public who don't know him very well outside the hits.
10) I Wanna Be Your Lover
Again this is precious MEMORIES for me. This colorful, delightful song just makes you believe that you wanna be a certain someone's lover. Whenever he does this live it's amazing. And I love it when he's on the piano with this song.

Oh yeah I forgot to add something to "International Lover". I really like the rehearsal/outtakes version of this song where it's Prince almost whispering and just him and his piano and the beat he makes with the pedal. I really dig that version ... I really like the sad tone it has with it.. It probably suits the song a little bit more because it's like he's looking for a girl ("Darling it appears to me you could use a date tonight... .... ...Am I qualified?") and I love what he does with his voice around 2:00.. Someone let me know if P has ever recorded this song that was similar to this one.

Thank you for this thread, OP! I have never liked "I Would Die 4 U," (just doesn't have the melody of so many other P songs from that time period). Your reasons for why it's your #1 are so inspiring, I just listened to it (and I always skip that track). I really like reading people's lists. It's so interesing to see tracks I sleep on in others' Top Tens. Makes me take a relisten. And it is GREAT to see "Letitgo" on your list. I LOVE that song (I love most of "Come")!

Here are mine (in no particular order, but these are the songs I go back to and listen to over and over and over again):

1. She's Always In My Hair

2. Strange Relationship

3. A Love Bizarre

4. Purple Rain

5. DMSR

6. Sign "O" The Times

7. I Wonder

8. Sometimes It Snows In April

9. Crystal Ball

10. Let's Go Crazy

Omg I love basically everything on "Come" too! I LOVE "Pheromone"!! That's just amazing! That's probably in like my top 50 somewhere! He had to be high when he was writing those lyrics lol the lyrics is just brilliant... A bit creepy in a way but brilliant

Some great lists here already. 10 is very difficult, so here are 10 favs that come to mind right now (in no order) ...

Crystal Ball

DMSR

Girls & Boys

Anna Stesia

Joy in Repetition

Always in My Hair

Shockadelica

Irresistable Bitch

Sign O the Times

When Doves Cry

Have to say, there are some that if I was not tired of hearing them, notably Housequake and Erotic City, they would definitely be on this list.

If you've got funk, you've got style.

Yes! The MN Twins used to have a player named Pedro Florimon (pronounsed "Flor-i-mone"), and whenever the announcer said, "Florimon!" I would sing "Pheromone!" My husband would shake his head and pretend he was simply sitting next to me and not 'with' me. But it totally should have been his at bat song! Also love "Space," "Dark," and for some reason I just love "Papa"!! It's my second favorite song on the album after "Letitgo."
