He would be more innovative / Hij zou meer innovatief zijn

If he would NOT do another 3rdeyegirl hits and run thing (with inevitable sampler set) but do a show of SOS band tracks instead.

He can do it.

But he won't.

Yet I am right about the idea in general, not just the specifics.

It is both rehash.

Just for P doing SOS band material is more fresh than him doing his own stuff over and over again.

Apologies to OP if you're not a native English speaker, but I don't understand what you're talking about in this thread. Is there any way you could re-word it? And what's an SOS band?

SOS band.

My native language is Dutch.

If you don't understand: what do you not understand?

I compare P doing his very same stuff each time with P doing something else (e.g. not his own works but those form the SOS band).

It is not that complicated.

Yes, I was drunk and now I cannot edit the headline anymore.

Sorry.

Did you stop there or can we have a session in insightfulness now?

Udo, are you still drunk or have a hangover? People around here are asking you to better articulate your thoughts so they can give you insightful answers. So rephrase your question(s) and ask them again. I would love to respond once you do. I am sure others will as well. Otherwise your thread will die a slow tortuous death.

What is so hard to understand baout that one?

Same here.

P repeating himself is boring versus him doing something different is more likely to be not so boring.

But why would people pay to go to a Prince concert if he wasn't going to play a single Prince song?

Is it about music or Prince?

If P does the music it should be good.

That depends. If I had paid £70 last year to see him in Birmingham and he'd only played songs by a band I'd never heard of, I'd have been pretty pissed off.

On the other hand, if it was at a small venue and billed as an SOS Band tribute concert, I might well be more inclined to approach it with an open mind.

In reality though, if Prince wanted to do something different, he'd play and promote his new music. That he doesn't seems to indicate that he lacks either faith or interest in his current work, but I'd prefer to see 'This Could Be Us' live rather than yet another rendition of 'Purple Rain'.

yeahthat

Udo.... do you really want Prince to fill a whole show just with songs by the SOS band????

That's a sick idea imo, sorry... I disagree with you... in general I'm not crazy with Prince doing those cover versions at his concerts...

I want Prince to play Prince-songs in concerts- and Prince-songs only. wink

Do you want to hear the old songs again and again and again? Sampler sets?

P is (becoming) a nostalgia act, depending on where you draw the line.

If ever I do a tour again it could be for the aftershows alone.

That's a sick idea imo

Sick?

Because you want to hear the old songs again and again and again?

That is not innovative, not different, not fresh.

, sorry... I disagree with you... in general I'm not crazy with Prince doing those cover versions at his concerts...

Same as him and Larry doing Stone and the family Sly songs?

I want Prince to play Prince-songs in concerts- and Prince-songs only. wink

Your idea but then you should cope with whatever P serves you.

I don't like to wait half a show for a gem of some sorts, hear the mini-medleys, certain songs back to back years in a row, don't want to cope with a sampler set.

If he really means music then play a 1:45 hour show, including encore, with high speed, high energy songs and not waste time with 'too many hits' brabbling.

Yes he can do old songs, but just not the one we alwayys here, no 'slow' versions of old songs, etc, etc.

He has to keep it fresh and no-nonsense. Music.

.

But he has veered far from that path.

It is unlikely he will recover, regain his composition, get into proper shape.

Prince will end up like The Rolling Stones: pumping out their old hits time after time and...enjoying every minute of it! I just watched the Stones concert at Hyde Park from last year. It was old, stale, predictable, but...it worked. By the time they closed with Satisfaction, I couldn't help thinking, yes, these guys are the greatest rock & roll band on the planet. What a legacy. Same with Prince. It is as if he only playes for people who see him for the first time. They want Purple Rain and 1999. Old folks like Udo and yours truly will just have to find some other bands to go and see.

Yes that would be great

A number of bands are doing that these days

Sign O The Times and Purple Rain in full on the same night would be good

I think it would get boring because you'd know exactly what was going to become next. Kate Bush did that last year (Hounds of Love/Aerial) , but at least she built a whole theatre show around it with actors, costumes, stage sets and the likes. If it is only a band playing an album note for note... No, thanx.

Then what to say about the song pairs that persist for a few tours?

The songs may be played in a great manner but still it is a bit of a let down.

I'm just searching for some freshness to the concept of a Prince concert.

Hij zou meer innovatief zijn (<- is that the correct translation in Dutch?)
