Reflection live with Wendy. Perfection.

April, 2004. The Tavis Smiley Show.

Just listened to this again for the first time in a while and reminded myself of how much I adore this performance.

The song, the perfomance, the emotion, Wendy... it's all perfection. The song just doesn't come across on the record for me but this performance; a lovely little gem in Prince's massive career.

The way Wendy stares at him for the entire duration is particularly special. I believe she said on her blog that 'he's still very beautiful'.

'Sometimes I want to go out (you know me)

And play my guitar.

Just watch all the cars go by'

I got two sides... and they're both friends.

My thoughts are simple and straightforward. I LOVED this moment and often rewatch the clip just to enjoy the very things you detailed wink

This was cool. I liked those mini-reunion performances of 2004-7:

1. Wendy, reflection, 2004 Tavis
2. Morris, Jerome, Sheila, 2005 NAACP
3. Lisa, Wendy, Sheila, 2006 Brits
4. Sonny T, Michael B, 2007 Leno

There were probably others that I'm forgetting. Sheila and Eric Leeds are really to frequent to mention.

Yeah I loved this performance.. I'd love to see him do more acoustic stuff live. During the Paris shows in 09 or so he did a track or two or three of some acoustic stuff that blew me away. I prefer acoustic sets to keyboard set tbh.

Change it one more time..

I loved watching how their hands moved almost in sync while playing guitar

Doesn't make sense this stuff isn't still happening

Beautiful show

What Averett said. (Loved the CD version, too).

I thought it was a great performance. Even my "hardcore hip hop" loving younger brother called me after and said he liked it too..Hard to believe that was 11 years ago.

I can't watch it without getting a lump in my throat. Imo, one of those moments Prince and Wendy made magic together.

There definately was a feel of Prince possibly incorporating various band members into his now

there were a few show were Lisa & Wendy performed with Prince during the 2004-2007 years

One or 2 Susanna as well. I believe the last with Wendy was the 3 Minneapolis show 2007.

.

I forgot where I read if, maybe it was her website

From her comments on that Reflections performance she was actually reflecting herself and was in a state of admiration. She said something 2 the affect of 'he's still very beautiful' etc etc

.

Antonio Edge's photo.

We knew it’d be the last time for a while that we’d be on stage together. He broke all his guitar strings during ‘Purple Rain’ & walked off. ‘Sometimes It Snows In April’ was the encore & we all felt this incredible power on stage. It was almost heartbreaking.

Yep, this is what I was thinking too. The performance was ace and did the song much more justice than the album version. And yes, time flies indeed, I remember watching this performance all the time in 2004. And now another 11 years have passed, incredible...

RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

Tear up? What the funk? Any time Wendy is coat-tailing Prince, I am irritated by her overrated adulation of her vanilla flunkies.

Just her presece is enough. The part where sings 'Sometimes I just wanna go out and (turns to Wendy) you know me...play my guitar'. It takes it back to a time when they were just friends with a incredible love for music. Because that's all that reall matters to Prince and all that's ever mattered. Music. It's his entire being.

Wow. I just played the album version and Tavis performance with Wendy. I never realized just how much better the Tavis version is. The difference for me is really Prince's singing is so much better on the live version. It's just a touch more confident and emotional sounding.

I too am not sure what Wendy added. I'm not saying she didn't add anything, it's just what she played basically seemed to mirror Prince but in a deeper register. It gave the acoustic guitar accompaniment a little more umph than a single guitar, but that seems secondary to the better vocal performance. The album version vocals are really light for the first half of the song on the album and takes any bite out of the song -- kind of like the first verse of I'm Yours doesn't do the rest of the song justice.

Maybe there's something about Wendy's attitude and energy that brings a particular greatness from Prince that some other band members don't.

I remember that show! Great performance! Loved it. Man, that era feels better and better as the years go by. Also really liked the song - live and studio. Should have been the last single from that album.

I liked it. Always liked Wendy, and there was something special about seeing them reunite, years later, older and more mature and basically different people than they were in the 80s, just sitting down and delivering a great authentic performance. They were no longer flashy sex deviants, just talented musicians

I love the 2004 era, Prince's return to prominence, an exciting and rich year.. and was it just me, or did he look more like he did from the Purple Rain days in 2004 than any other time? Because of the purple suit and curly hair (I like the short curls of the time)

Off topic but I felt bad for Wendy for not being highlighted at the BRITs 06... why she didn't get the main spotlight/kiss during Purple Rain (whose creation she played a role in) in favor of Tamar.. I'll give Prince the benefit of the doubt and assume it was unintentional/maybe a mistake.
