I miss The Time! sad Such an exciting band!!

Me too, the real Time

I think the excitement level would have turned way up

if he let the Time open for him around the Welcome 2 Australian tour

and if he did a few songs with the Family on their album etc

Initial tracking took place on 14 January, 1982 at Sunset Sound, Hollywood, CA, USA (three days after Bold Generation and Gigolos Get Lonely Too, the same day as International Lover, and the day before Colleen).

As with most of the rest of the album, the track features only Morris Day and Prince. The song's spoken section introduces the idea of Morris Day referring to a woman as "Grace" regardless of her real name; an idea also used on Grace.

Recording Personnel
  • Morris Day - vocals and drums
  • Prince - background vocals and all instruments, except where noted (uncredited)
  • Vanity - spoken vocals (credited as Vanity 6)

The walk (9:31)

Attention everybody! I'm gonna show you a brand new dance.
It's called "The walk, the walk", just let your body talk 'til you're deep in a trance.
You don't need no partner, you can walk all alone.
Whenever you feel the groove just let your body move, walkin' to a beat of your own.

(chorus)
Everybody walk your body, everybody walk.
Everybody walk your body, everybody walk.

Attention everybody! I said it ain't hard to do.
Just walk, walk, let your body talk, walkin' so cool.
Attention everybody! I said I just shined my shoes.
So you can let your body talk, just watch where you walk or your life you're gonna lose.
In other words, I'll walk you 'til you're dead.

(repeat chorus)

The days of dancing in one place are gone.
And honey, you know you can't dance with them tight jeans on.
If you try to cop a dip, you trip, slip, and fall.
Walking's for the cool baby, put on a camisole.

(repeat chorus)

Who? Me? I wear baggies, zip, snap, and drop.
Easy access baby. Yes, before you get a chance to holler "Stop!"
Besides, Rollo likes his freedom.
Ain't nothin' like a fresh pair of baggies.
Now I know that's right

(repeat chorus)

Hup 2, 3, 4, what the hell are we fightin' for? Walk.

Damn, I'm 'bout to walk a hole in my Stacy Adams.
What time is it?
Little cute guitar player, make your mama proud.
I want all of Detroit City to stand up, clap your hands!
Alright you Polaroids, stay in time with the drummer.
Jellybean, don't be so mean. Mr. Jelly, turn it around.
Bass man walk downtown. Go on and walk, Terry.
I don't think they heard ya.
What time is it? Rock City.
Well OK, if you put it that way.
Ain't nobody bad. Cheerio.

We don't like policemen.

We don't like new wave.
We don't like television.

(repeat chorus)

the Walk by the Time
featuring Vanity as Grace

Morris Day as Morris

Prince as the Italian club owner
Producer: The Starr ★ Company

.

Say, hey baby, where you goin'?
.... I'm going home. I can't dance like that.
Well baby, that's because you got those jeans on to tight.
Now let's just take'em off.
.... What do you mean "Let's just take'em off?"
Come on, take'em off. I got something for you to wear. Here, put this on.
.... Uh, you always keep lingerie in your glove department?
None of my women wear gloves. Now put this on.
.... But...
But my ass. Hey, a play on words.
.... But all the girls will stare at me.
All the girls in this neighborhood already wear camisoles.
.... I know, but...
But, but... that's because it's cool. Now let's get them jeans off.
.... Ok, but I'm warning you.
Warning me about what?
Mm, God, this zipper's tight. Here, why don't you lay down?
.... Um, that's what I'm tryin' to tell you.
Stop tryin' to tell me things and pull!
.... But...
Come on, pull!
.... I'm warning you.
Mary, sweet mother Jesus!
.... I told you.
Damn baby, how'd you get all that in them jeans?
.... It wasn't easy.
I know that's right, mmm! Well, I think you'd be more comfortable in this.
.... I'm sure I would. I don't know.
Hurry up Grace, song's almost over.
.... My name's not Grace.
I know that, but hurry up... Grace.
.... Man, these are weird. I guess the tag goes in the back.
Hurry up!
.... OK, OK, how do I look?
Almost as good as me, now let's go!

.... Hey Morris, what time is it? Who's the lovely lady? Introduce us.
I'll introduce you to a headache if you don't get out of my face!

OK baby, now check this out. We gonna walk 'til the song's over.
In other words, meet me at the bar in 32 measures, cool?
.... Cool.
And if you're good, I'll let you work the stick in my ride. Uah ha ha!

They were,
I was watching Vanity 6 part of the 1999 tour and listening to the music

How they took that albums music and brought it to life and it sounds like 'Prince' music

He had some of the best people in those days

And Vanity 6 owned those songs

I love that time. I wish Jimmy & Terry weren't fired because the Purple Rain era would have been to a whole other level and that era was already at 98%

Gigolos get lonely Too (4:42)
recorded December 1981 by [Prince] at his home studio [1] • performed by [Prince] (all instruments & vocals) with [Morris Day] (additional lead vocals) • final mixing 20th-21st July 1982 at Sunset Sound [7]

Gigolos get lonely too (4:42)

I guess you've heard of my reputation, I've had my share of foolin' around.
But everybody needs stimulation, and mine just happens to be all over town.
It's an easy-money occupation, a first-class psychiatry.
But just once, I'd wanna make love without taking off my clothes.
Just once, I wanna make love with somebody who really and truly knows:

(chorus)
Contrary to rumor, gigolos get lonely too.
All my lovers need stimulation, but honey babe, I think that I need you.

Maybe you're the kind of person, that could turn my world around.
Won't you gimme little inspiration? Maybe that's what I need to make me settle down.
It's an easy-money occupation, but honey one thing understand.
I've got more money than you could imagine in your wildest dreams.
But honey, money don't make no happy man.

(repeat chorus)

Just once, I wanna love without takin' off my clothes.
Just once, I wanna love with somebody who knows.
That I got more money than you could ever see.
But honey, money won't get me up off my knees.

Gigolos get lonely too.
All my lovers need stimulation.
But honey babe, I think that I need you.

(repeat chorus)

What cha gonna do, baby?
Oh, what cha, what cha gonna do?

Ah, do you think we could have dinner sometimes, baby?
Well, how about to night?
Baby?

I don't wanna leave you (6:29)
recorded May/June 1982 by [Prince] at at his home studio [1] • performed by [Prince] (all instruments & vocals) with [Morris Day] (additional lead vocals) • final mixing 20th-21st July 1982 at Sunset Sound [7]

I don't wanna leave you (6:29)

People say you run around, I don't even care.
I could never hold you down, I don't even dare.
I just wanna play your game, no matter what the rules.
I've met an awful lot of dames, but not quite as bad as you.

Let me try to love you, I know I could.
One night to hold you, just ain't no good.

(chorus)
I don't wanna leave you, I don't wanna go.
Can't you see I need you? Girl, I need you so.

I will be your doctor babe, I'll make you feel alright.
I've got something to keep you warm, on a cold and lonely night, now turn out the light.
I will never tie you down, cuz I know you wanna be free, so free.
Say you'll let me come around, say you wanna be with me.

Let me try to love you, I know I could.
One night to hold you just ain't no good.

(repeat chorus)

All I wonna do, is make sweet love to you.
Now you wanna leave me. What am I supposed to do?
Can't you hang past to? That was 12 o'clock at night.
Why you wanna leave so soon? Girl, you know it ain't right.

(repeat chorus)

I don't wanna leave you, I don't wanna go.

Let me try to love you, I know I could.
One night to hold you, just ain't no good.
I don't wanna leave you.

(repeat chorus)
