Why does Prince ... (industry related as a whole)

go on all these mainstream award shows when they don't care about black people?

Okay so I love admire Prince but I have always been confused by this. He seems to be doing this more lately and while I love seeing him and watchin him swag walk with canes and glittery body suits, lol I often wonder why he endorses these shows by going on them to help them with ratings. These shows don't cater to real artistry and I don't think any of these shows care about black people or social issues that affect black people. So I am asking why Prince? WHY? Why does he go to the Grammys, Billboards when they don't cater to the audience and music listerners that he caters too? I just feel like they just use him for ratings. The grammy's has not once honored him but they always ask for him to show up or make an appearance.

When did Prince become a social activist? When did Prince become a Pan-African? For Prince, it's exposure that gurantees him a lot of publicity and keeps his profile high in the public eye. It's an industry event that he uses just as much as the Grammys use Prince. By the way, Prince attends the NAACP Image Awards and Essence Awards from time to time and those shows are no different than the Grammy and Billboard Awards. As far as the Grammys honoring Prince, maybe Prince doesn't want a lifetime achievement award at this juncture in his career. If Prince wanted that accolade, he has the clout to make it happen.

Just to be clear, I am not bashing Prince. biggrin I believe he geniunely cares about social issues and black people. You don't necessarily have to be a social activist in order to care about these things. However, I think he endorses the Grammy's when they don't represent artistry or award artistry like they use too.I know he is an artist and he needs publicity but just saying. I notice he goes on there more frequently now but not just Grammy's other award shows as well. Billboards honored Prince so why can't The Grammy's? They always ask for him to present an award even when he doesn't have an album out and he shows up shrug

Marketing himself for tours, appearances..

His "Standaard of Living" is high, and he's not going backwards...(Like I mentioned in The "Patti LaBelle/Dancing with The Stars" thread here".

He has staff, studios, security, and musicians on retainer...to pay for...

Dr. King & Co. were funded....lolol....

Why did not anyone involved with "Selma" say more about not being nominated more? $$$$

Prince was angry at the industry, and folks here seemed to want him back in the mainstream.."Shut-up!", "Grow-up!", and get back in the race..."Get back in the status quo.."Get a hit on the charts--so we can be proud of you!" All kinds of stuff like that... So, after 2003, he did...

If you "take a stand", you need to look to your right, and your left, and see who is really standing with you..

When it gets hot...

Make sure that when someone "takes a stand", that you stand by them, when the rent is due, and they start losing assets...I know some pople who feel the same way, but will laugh at someone being "black-balled" and lose their standard of living--in the same breath.
