'Why Should I love You' is distinctly Prince, but what songs in HIS catalog have that sound?

So I was listening to Why Should Love You by Kate Bush and Prince's production is immediately obvious but I'm struggling to put my finger on why. The organ and the feel of the chorus stand out as 'Princey' despite me being able to think of Prince songs that have that sound and feel.

Any suggestions?

Not fair. That song would not exist if Prince didn't collaborate on that song! And I don't know another song that sounds like 'Why Should I Love U?' in his catalogue. It has Kate Bush's signature on it too.

I've heard Kate's orignal demo and although it is good, Prince turned it into a totally different song and elevated it to a pop/rock level as before if was quite folky/acoustic. He also isolated the more powerful lyrics and dumped a lot of them, it was when he was a total master of his art and had no fear in pulling a song apart and rebuilding it.

Jestyr nailed it! Reminds me totally of Diamonds and Pearls/Graffiti Bridge era. Such a great song, and, randomly, I was playing it this morning as well! "Yo Mister" has a similar "princey" early-90s chorus.

It's more complicated than what's been said above.

Kate sent the original (that leaked ever since) to P.

P absolutely butchered it then sent it back.

Kate spent weeks trying to figure out what to do with his overdubs, eventually coming up with the final, released version. That final mix, according to the few people who heard P's version, had little to do with what P had sent her.

Kate reportedly ordered all copies of P's version to be erased so the only surviving version is in the Vault and since Prince has no legitimacy to ever release it, it means we'll all be long dead (including P and Kate) when it's finally released, so we'll never know in the end what it sounded like, unless maybe some of the people who told the story give a more detailed report about what P did exactly with it.

Michael Koppleman is the main source for this info but I think someone from Kate's camp also spoke about it (the "she worked on it for weeks to salvage it" part).

The song is great and fits perfectly on The Red Shoes album.
It is a damn shame the version that ended up on the album was somewhat of a salvage mission to repair the track the Prince supposedly butchered.
.
But in the end, you do get a song that captures the Prince sound. For me it's the drum beat that is immediately followed by the chorus with multiple harmonies. Also the guitar riff that is repeated twice is vintage Prince, and I love that you can hear his vocals at the very end of the song.
.
On another note, I've read a lot about this track, and a lot of the feedback is pretty divided. Some say Prince's contribution made it too pop/rock, while the original demo was much more appropriate for Kate's sound. However, there are a few tracks on The Red Shoes where I can really hear a Prince influence. One notable track is Constellation of the Heart.

Exactly. It has the sound of D&P's era all over.

I believe I'm among the few who prefers the released version to the demo.

Isn't that essentially what he did with "Anotherlove?"

For me the song it most reminds me of is "All my dreams." Particularly the groove. The neo classcal light reminds me of 'Manic Monday" and the rehearsal teaser start of 'The sex of it."

After Prince, Kate is one of my favorite artists. I was fortunate enough to see her live a few months ago.

I love this track, and I'd love to hear the full version Prince did. I prefer the final version to the demo also. I think if they'd actually worked together in the studio to make it, then the process would have been smoother. I also don't give much credence to Koppelman's story - he seems very bitter towards Prince in general, is clearly more of a Kate fan than a Prince fan, and thus probably wouldn't have enjoyed anything Prince did to the track regardless. Everytime I read his recollection of the events, I think about what little respect he has for his employer and find it very unprofessional on his part.

I think it is the best collaborative Prince song
