If you think THAT^ song belongs in the same sentence as Behind The Groove, I'm Just A Sucker For You Love, Square Biz, It Must Be Magic, Fix It, Help Young Blood Get To The Freak Party, Once Is Not Enough, Lips To Find You, Suger Shack, and/or Here's Looking At You, then you are a naive sheep that needs to have his/her funk license revoked. no no no! lol

It's not fair to compare an artist past work to the present. But I see where you coming from. Plus i'm honored that you are a real fan of Lady Tee(my all time favorite female singer). I met her and her death still affects me today.

A lot of rnb artist NOW, are watering down their muziq to become more pop. LIke Usher, Charlie Wilson & Ronald Isley. That is where the real money is. Teena never did that. She may have not been as funky in her last years on earth. But even with her FIRST crossover smash "LoverGirl". She still remained funky, on that album and single. Teena was a rare soul, that was identified as a black artist. I miss her terribly. Robin Thicke reminds me a lot of Teena. So soulful and never tried to crossover to pop. Until "Blurred Lines" (you see what trouble that song has gotten him into).

Now back to prince & Rihanna.

Staying on topic, I think Prince should let Rihanna do a cover version of Blue Limousine.

The contractual nature of it does not cancel the fact that it's an agreement of having their names tied, whatever the project is.
Call it what you want, it's still interpenetration (no pun intended, I don't what kind of games this Rihanna babe is on) of "brands".

As thedance said :

Rihanna = Real pseudo "music" by real pseudo "artists".

St Vincent, FKA twigs, these are girls just waiting for it.
Girls with balls. Kate Bush-like.

The only balls Rihanna showed were spheres.
Basically her ass in exchange of internet buzz.

A lot of younger, more talented, more subversive acts are waiting for the torch to be passed on.

But no, he collaborates with Big Ass clown.

Has there been any word on when Rihanna's new cd
will be released? Or do you think she will do a
no advance word release.

If Rihanna's handlers want to pay for his music, let them. Music snobs kill me sometimes. Let those who enjoy her music enjoy it. You enjoy what and who you like. Telling people what they should and shouldnt do with songs that would probably never be released anyway is pretty ridiculous. Hows he going to benefit from all the music he has sitting in his vault if he dies before anyone hears any of it.

Change it one more time..

Bullshit. And don't dare called me a liar. no no no! This is TonyVanDam and I'm still a true funk solider, damn you! And I know exactly what I'm talking about as much as Vainandy and every true fan of The Funk does.

I love Teena's classic slow jams as much as the next Teena-fan. But goddamn it, I'm also a even bigger fan of her funk hits!

And excuse you Kcool, but Teena was NOT making anymore funk tracks like she used to during her days with Motown Records & Epic Records. As a matter of fact, she did NOT ever have any funk tracks at all with the only two albums she did for Cash Money/Universial Records. Before she died, Teena was doing the same thing the Ronald Isley AND Charlie Wilson are still doing now, which is "play it safe" by only doing slow jams and forsaking any opportunity of making new funk tracks.

Because RnB and Hip-Hop stations do not want to play funk. I also think a lot of Adult Comtemporary stations are not to fond of it either. Ron, Charlie and even Prince would have no chance of getting on mainstream RnB stations if they did a CD full of funk cuts.

At the end of the day in order to keep recording music you have to sell music. I am not sure why this is so hard to grasp.

Prince gives songs to sexy women artists? Who cares? I'll be excited when D'Angelo gives songs to Prince! Maybe that could spare us from PlectrumRectum Part 2.

It would be nice to see them tour and maybe throw in Lenny Kravitz or stretch a little and mix in Living Colour (who will release a new album). I like AoA but am thrilled about PLECTRUM ELECTRUM....its a rock album not a pop album...hope 3rdeyegirl and Prince make a few more. If D'Angelo had any connection to a future 3rdeyegirl album he should consider himself lucky....its exciting work and I'm really glad Prince stuck to his guns to make a straight up rock album.

I am glad he did a Rock album and I hope he does more. People are acting as if he never had Rock elements in his music all this time.

Haha...Prince has a "black cloud" over his head when it comes to hits. RiRi may not have enough pull to make it a hit. Also, the song could be a dud, full of JW babble and nonsensical Prince talk. Why can't he write a straightforward song anymore??? Why are his songs so full of cryptic lyrics??? It's cool when he does his own thing, but not for a collab....the public ain't trying to work that hard!

Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

I hear you, but Rhianna is a HUGE star in her prime. She has classic Prince chick "talent". Prince can't screw this up, can he? She's basically Sheila E without the drums.

Because no one wants to play crappy music. If Prince or any oldtimer released a great track, it would find an audience. No one is holding anyone down. People just get delusional and unrealistic about the financial or artistic value of the crap Prince is releasing today.

Its hard to stay with your posts sometimes V10LETBLUES because you are so much the ivory tower arbriter for all things related to the quality of Prince's music. I find your comments to be revelatory of your own desire to shove your opinions down our throats...in a Prince "fan" community. But on this point about the public's musical tastes.....I have to strongly disagree with you about radio & media attitudes towards music. There is so much crap masquerading as music shoved down the public's throat like a "musical" intubation proceedure it boogles the mind. Selling has nothing to do with quality. Selling has everything to do with marketing, repitition, product placement and playing to the lowest common denominator.....artistry at this moment is dead. Even Beck wins a Grammy and sells a handful of albums but name any minimally talented feaux patriotic country singer (male or female) and you will find million selling songs. Now I like Garth Brooks....but that other isht? The ghosts of Johnny Cash and Patsy Cline must be twisting and turning in their heavenly beds. Hip hop is no better and pop sucks as a result. Indie rock....meh.....some good some to self-absorbed but at least there is some creativity there (Grizzly Bear comes to mind & Radiohead lately is calling its music indie rock and they are always good). Otherwise, its all about extreme market segmentation and playing to "type" kinda like Fox vs. MSNBC.....no imagination...just get a contract to the latest winner of "The Voice" or one of those "talent" shows and you're off. Black so-called radio is no better than pop radio or even FM rock which clings to the all-White "Classic Rock" bit for identity. Don't get me started on the fact that every 3rd Station is this pop-country garbage...I don't know what is worse those stations or all the right-wing AM talk shows and "Xtian" shows. Thank goodness for YouTube and iTunes.

Do you listen to RnB/Hip_Hop stations today nothing on it is funk. RnB radio was even slow to add the Bruno Mars/ Mark Ronson track and I hear that more on AC Rnb stations then RnB/Hip-Hop.

Young people may not like funk or radio programmers do not think they will like so it so they do not play it. A lot of Old timers are putting out good music but they cannot make the radio play it or even force record companies to put it out and promote.

Go read interviews with Charlie Wilson and how hard it was for him to get a recording contract.

Nothing is wrong with AOA the CD did hang in the RnB Album chart for about four months with no radio airplay and good critical reviews. If Prince had gone on every T.V. show in world you still would not have too much from this CD on RnB radio and definitely not on pop stations.

He is pushing 60 and Rnb does not have love for Senior Citizens.

I was excited about this especially considering Rihanna is a huge star and would take the song to top ten status worldwide, but I'm just getting this feeling that this won't be as fruitful as I thought. Janelle Monae and Rita Ora anybody...

Laura, you are 100 on point, but I think radio as currently no room for NEW MUSIC from anyone over 30 no matter what format.....with the exception of "pop country." Bowie doesn't get played, Madonna will be lucky if she gets any exposure, of cours Prince has been ignored for at least a decade and on and on. Living Colour is the perfect example of this, those cats have gotten nothing but better since "Vivid" in 1987-1988.....but the only time you ever hear them played is when Vivid tracks are featured="Cult of Personality" "Glamour Boys" occasionally "Letter to the Landlord." Vivid was a great debut in the way that 3RDEYEGIRL is a great debut, Vivid was a solid, very good release.....but they've put together CDs that amount to perfection since then.....no airplay....its like they never existed. But Rick Ross, Nicki Minaj and other garbage....non-stop.

I would strongly agree with you except Mark's & Bruno's Uptown Funk proves THAT^ point is no longer valid. The USA and maybe the world is ready for new funk. But it's up to hip-hip/r&b artists to bring back the bass guitar full-time & keep the tempo a lot faster than 95 BPM.

Can't we all just be be happy that P is still making music and sharing it with younger artists. What you call making moves is something he has always done and I am glad he is still doing! We will just have to wait to see what happens.
