'Que' Onda Guero" by Beck sounds like "Now" by Prince

Prince is a big influence on Beck obviously but these two songs sound

similar.

beat wise and rapping wise this song sounds like "Now"

"james joyce.....michael bolton!!!" "i saw a puppet at Tang's, with a mullet and a popsicle"

falloff

que onda guero is the shit. i must have listened to that song at least 958 times since he

released it. it's hysterical. "guero" is a great album too.

beck is my second favorite artist, alongside prince, and he's got so much brilliant music

that, like with prince, the general public doesn't know. they think he did 2 songs they are

a bit farmiliar with and that's it. as far as they're concerned he never did anything else.

his music is so varied and he's so good at all the styles he does and melts them into his

very own unique sound. and like with prince, his albums are very well crafted and very

layered and i find myself returning to them time and again, constantly discovering stuff

i didn't hear before or falling in love with a song i didn't care too much about at first.

aaaaaaaanyway. i've gone off track again, haven't i ? lol

to answer your initial question: no, i've never thought "que onda guero" sounds the least

bit like Now or any other prince song. smile

this thread made me listen to "que onda guero" again, and then i had to

listen to the "call me on your video phone" verse in Now again, for about

7 times in a row. still don't think the songs sound alike at all, but they're

both cool as fck cool

The background beat at times reminds me of "Come On"! Such a great song/album/artist/pants.

"Get Real Paid" has a keyboard part that is reminiscent of 'Con-tin-ent-al' and a bass part that sounds like 'Head'. It's in the chorus after the lyric "I want to know if I'm worth your time".

"I like to watch."

Beck has been a staple for me since 96

He's a true artist and awesome live. Just saw him last summer and his rendition of Debra is spot on Prince!
The greatest live performer of our times was is and always will be Prince.

The beat more reminds me of "Forever in my Life" (from Prince's Sign O the Times)

I don't really hear the similarity to Now, but the drum track is almost identical to Face Down - not only virtually the same drum track but the same tempo too.

.

.

When I first heard Que Onda Guero I noticed the similarity straight away and decided to make a Que Onda Guero / Face Down mashup - and the tracks are so identical that I didn't even have to chop them up into bars to do beat matching, I was able to take the entire wav's and just chop them up / overlay them for the mix.

.

.

For those who don't believe me and those who always wondered what a Que Onda Guero / Face Down mashup might sound like, now's your chance. It's on soundcloud. "Face down guero mashup".

Lemmy, Bowie, Prince, Leonard. RIP.

Whale - Hobo Humpin Slobo Babe

That is the song that I always think of when listening to Now. Don't know that Beck song myself, but loved his Midnight Vultures album back in the day.

RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...
