That 1979 perm~ How to?

In my opinion Prince's coolest hairdo by far had to be that perm from '79, it's real fluffy and wavy biggrin I definately want to go for a style like that.

How would a mere mortal (with medium-curly afro hair naturally similar to P) go about getting that look? A proper perm would be good, but if there's a way to do it without chemicals that would be great! How long would your hair have to be? How much would this cost, and has anyone tried this before razz

Prince (1979)

Thanks guys smile

lt's just a perm, cut, blowout and curl. Any good black hair dresser or any hairdresser should be able to do you for $75-100 for everything.

Ask for a relaxer, not a perm. Or just get a press and curl.
What?

My hair does this naturally.

Benefit of being mixed race, I guess.

Wen (fig) & a flat iron.

Prince did an interview with a woman at Record World. They talked about whatever, then he asked her: "Does your pubic hair go up to your navel?" At that moment, we thought maybe we shouldn't encourage him to do interviews.

I don't have naturally wavy, fluffy hair. True motherland here, and I've had a beautician simply flat iron my natural hair (at the time), now it didn't stay but for two days but it was all flowy and bouncy all over the place for those 2 days. Unfortunately, I was spending most of those 2 days at my second job, and I had a hat on most of that time, working some outdoor concert events, some very hot sunny days.
Anyway.
The flatiron should work quite well for you. Oh and I think there's something on youtube about some kind of wrap that'll work for natural hair when they want to go perm-like straight, saw it only once though.
