The Hits (2015 Edition)

I'm trying to do a 2015 Edition of the Hits which include some hits when he changed his name and some album favorites. The album will consist of 4 discs any suggestions. Oh and it must be random just like the original released in 19993

Depends on your criteria.

The highest charting singles from "Dirty Mind" and "Controversy" were Uptown and Controversy, which peaked on the pop charts at numbers 101 and 70, respectively. Yet nobody complains about those songs being included on the original hits compilation. I mean, Dirty Mind the song is on that compilation too..... and that didn't even chart.

For my money, a follow up hits compilation would have to include these (amongst others):

Letitgo

Space
TMBGITW

Eye Hate U
Chaos & Disorder

Dinner with Delores
Somebody's Somebody

The Love We Make

The Greatest Romance Ever Sold (Remix feat. Eve)
Musicology
Black Sweat

Fury
Guitar

Crimson & Clover
Dance 4 Me

Laydown

Breakfast Can Wait
U Know

This Could Be Us
PretzelBodyLogic

Didn't complain, but never understood why songs like Mounatins, Girls & boys and Take me with u weren't included, but those songs you mention were. Called it "Best of" than.

I Did something similar for a friend who used to be a Prince fan but lost touch (as did so many) when Prince lost his marbles and changed his name. He recently asked me for a "best of" for the years after the Hits/Bsides just as a summary for what he had been up to. So this is what I gave him:

The Symbol Years I:
Face Down

P Control (Vesace)

Mad Sex

Lovesign

Underneith The Cream

Holy River

Dinner With Dolores

Come On

Strange But True

Most Beautiful Girl

Undisputed (Rave In2 remix)

Beautiful Strange

Other Side of the Pillow

Gold

The Symbol Years II:

Jam of the Year

Endorphine Machine

Come (outtake)

Chaos And Disorder

Love We Make

Days Of Wild (Crystal Ball)

5 Women

Space (Universal Love Remix)

Billy Jack Bitch

The Truth

When The Lights Go Down

Acknowledge Me

Wasted Kisses

The Millenium Years I:

Musicology

Illusion, Coma, Pimp....

1+1+1=3

Empty Room (CNote)

3121

One U Wanna C

Crimson & Clover

$

Last December

RNR Love Affair

Black Sweat

Another Love

Way Back Home

Millenium Years II:

Fury

Chelsea Rodgers

In a Large Room With No Light (2009)

Colonized Mind

Future Soul Song

No More Candy 4U

Compassion

Groovey Potential

Chapter & Verse

Screwdriver

A Case of U

ExtraLoveable (Reloaded)

RODSERLING

I think it would have been better to release in 2001 another tracklist for the VBO. Its lenght is only 73 minutes...What a waste

1. "I Wanna Be Your Lover" – 2:58 (single edit)

2. "1999" – 3:37 (single edit)

3. When Doves Cry" – 3:48

4. "Let's Go Crazy" – 4:39
5. "Purple Rain" – 8:40
6. Raspberry Beret" – 3:32

7. Kiss" – 3:38 (and not the silly single edit which last longer !)

8. Sign "O" the Times" – 3:43 (single edit)
9. "U Got the Look" – 3:47
10. BATDANCE 4:06 (7" edit(common, it's not impossible to release them, fuck WBP, fuck DC)

11. PARTYMAN 3 :05 (without the spoken intro)

11. Thieves in the Temple" – 3:20

12. "Gett Off" – 4:30
13. "Cream" – 4:13
14. "Diamonds and Pearls" – 4:20 (single edit)
15. 7" edit: 4:23

16. TMBGITW 4:07 (single edit)

18. NOTHING COMPARES 2 U 4:31 (not the crappy live track of 1993, but a studio version of the Family song sung by Prince)

19. MANIC MONDAY 3'06

TOTAL RUNNING : 78'29. With those 1'31 left, you can add a few seconds to edit version, or put ARROGANCE, SISTER...

Who are you?

What label are you working for?

Why do record execs think in hits albums only?

Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.

He hasn't had a HIT since TMBGITW. You can post chart figures forever, but the fact is no fucker knows what Letitgo or The Holy River is. Maybe Musicology? Only for the fact that that album brought him back from the dead in America and it's the title track? And Black Sweat almost pricked the pop bubble for a hot second, if you count being an animated gif meme as being hit. But neither song really is something that impacted in a lasting way. I'm kind of thinking of comparable comebacks like Madonna's Frozen or Music - those songs are still know years after their release, nothing of Prince's since MNIP other than TMBGITW is really is it, really....
