Well we know there were a handful of vinyl copies made in 1988, one of which was broadcast in Europe & became the source for many bootlegs. It could be real, but I wouldn't know how to verify it, usually you can tell by the matrix numbers on the vinyl.

Some guy I knew had a legit copy on vinyl in a shop he owns but at the time I didn't have enough money on me to buy it, so I left it and when I went back to get it he told me some middle aged guy had bought it. Fucking gutted, man.

It had a little sticker on the top right corner and it said 'the legendary black album'. Does this have that do you know? I made a thread about the copy in the shop asking if it was legit or not and someone gave me a link to a site that had guides on if it was legit or a boot.

More were made.

Only a limited number supposedly were saved when the album was not released.

That was 1987.

1988 gave us Lovesexy instead.

Do not worry. Judging from these photogrpahs it is a real one. This one has all the signs of a real one. You needn't worry.
Real one:
The 33 in the triangle is white (fake: black)
The alignment on the label is correct (fake: different)

You should also the spelling of the last track on the B-side:
Rockhard In A Funky Place (on fake always: Rockard.....)

And.... Fakes ones NEVER have a WB sticker on the album sleeve.

ok, what made me a little suspicious was the sticker, I did not know this was on the 1987 original.

but the price is extreme... far far too much, I am not buying it for sure.

I have the LP release from 1994, and that is ok for me.

It could have been placed on the cover later, but if the person knew what she was doing she wouldn't have done that.

The real original LP is more valuable than the 1994 or so release.

So why spoil it with an out-of-place sticker?

Back in 1987 the LP was not legendary; that status was achieved a bit later on as it was bootlegged.

lmao thats why i made a thread inquring about it if it was real or not.

Edit: Also I am aware that the legit 1994 releases had the 'legendary black album sticker on' after looking at a site that someone linked me to that helped to distinguish 1994 official releases from boots, I was thinking that this thread was asking about the vinyl release in 1994, not an actual original 1987 pressing.

Please don't. Even the smallest amount of inquiry would have been sufficient to know it not true. This is already in this thread, twice. ( wink )

This album on offer can very well be the real deal, but the price is too high. Then again you never know, if someone wants it that bad.

Ps...... I have made an edit and changed the headline,

now that we can tell it isn't a fake but in fact is an original vinyl from 1987.

Pellwormer

I listened when Ruth Rockenschraub broadcasted the wohle Album in her 'Soultrain' Show on a german Radio Station. It was an original ( and she knew it), but it was no bootleg. So there was a little trouble for her, but she aclaimed, sie didn't knew, it was forbidden (good actor😊).

Sorry for my germish. .

Especially for something in this state. Look at all the creases in the cover, and the deplorable state of the sticker. If you buy such a rare item, surely it must have cost you some significant amount: why then treat it like any other album in your collection? Hell, most of my vinyl looks nowhere near as bad as this.

This might sound like a very obtuse question, but was Prince's The Black Album actually called "The Black Album" or was it untitled and the fans gave it that name and it stuck?

.

Metallica has a "Black Album" too and it's not the official name of the album. Just curious.

the album was untitled according wikipedia:

"was to appear in an entirely black sleeve with no title or even a credit to Prince; hence it was referred to as The Black Album."

- you are right...... originally in 1987 there was no title on it at all. nod

Yes.. Metallica "The Black Album" is from 1991 iirc... and also hiphop: Jay-Z have a "Black Album" as well, I have never heard it though since I dislike that genre: hip hop.. yuck.. the Jay-z album is from 2003.

Three very different "Black albums" and genres: Funk, Hard-rock & Hiphop.
