One Night Alone--Voice & Piano

Does anyone on this board like this collection of songs...or is it too pedestrian for hard core fans' tastes? I find when I revisit this I appreciate many of the songs...although the whole CD has a melancholy air. I love just hearing Prince singing solo.

I LOVE the first half or so of the album and always have. It kind of bogs down at the end though.

Love the whole thing. Appreciate the chance to enjoy his piano skills and vocals highlighted this way. Excellent project. Avalanche is deep.

When you ask me I'll always say this is great. It was a good time to be a fan, there was lots happening and a piano album was an awesome thing to put out. I really enjoyed listening to it, Prince sings well and the piano is great.

But that said, do I ever play it? Nope. lol

For me: together with "The truth" one of his best recordings from his "independent" period, if not one of his best from the post 80's

I agree. I love the intimacy of both and wish he'd do another 'solo' album again.

A hardcore fan would be most interested in this so why would it be considered pedestrian for such a fan? It is one of those albums that really is for the hardcore fan as you had to pursue it online to even know it existed - let alone actually buy it. It is that part of Prince's work that verifies his genius yet goes largely unnoticed by the general public.

I dig that he chose to do something like this, a piano album is something people wanted to see for a long time, but I don't think it's all that great as an album and doesn't really live up to the concept.

I like a lot several individual songs though, it has some of my favourite tracks from the 00s.

I've always loved it, deeply! I remember when released it was a shitstorm here, with people saying "why didn't he release Intimate Moments instead of that crap?" and that just killed me: Intimate Moment is cool but ONA is so superior a recording IMHO, if only because P's piano playing had improved considerably!

I love it enough to have purchased a second-hand CD for $120US. The only song I don't care for is Avalanche, but it's easy enough to skip.

with songs like Silver tongue and somewhere here on earth and grand progression...it makes this Cd less appealing

It has some strong songs and some less good. U're Gonna C Me and Avalanche are my favorites.

I like the Intimate Moments bootleg of a solo piano performance from the early 80s better. The piano playing is stronger, and so is the singing. He overproduced some of the one nite alone material. But ONA is still a good album and a nice piece for listening to in a contemplative mood.

I am in agreeance with the latter. But for me it is my favorite P cd. I think the lyrics give great insight into his personal relationship with Mayte on some tracks. Would anyone agree?

I absolutely love this CD. Esp "A Case of U" and "Pearls b4 the Swine".

So bittersweet and heartfelt.

Love it. Pearls b4 the swine is a favorite. Avalance not so much, mostly due to lyrical content. As much as I love A Case of U, it pales in comparison to the First Ave live perofrmance and rehersal.

This statement tells me Prince needs to move to Europe.
