Prince's demo for the Time song 'Chocolate'

Back in the day, before I had a bootleg of it, I used to think Jesse and the Time were kicking ass on the song 'Chocolate'! The guitar to me sounded like Jesse's playing! That's how good Prince is! Lo and behold the whole damn song outside of Morris mimicking Prince on vocals is Prince.

P really had me fooled!

Now, I'm betting some of the stuff I thought Jesse did on Ice Cream Castles including the title track and If the Kid can't Make You Come is Prince!

Prince can frigging do everything...musically!

There is a version on the 1983 folder of Prince's IVault and The Work 2.0. It is pretty sound quality wise. It is Prince doing his Morris Day/Dirty Old Man voice with a great bass line and synth with a female voice (Possibly Jill or Lisa) singing "Chocolate".

.

It's quite funny actually, think of a funkier version of Cloreen Bacon Skin without the drum track.

Seems like "Chocolate" and "Do Yourself A Favor" have been circulating in great sound quality for a long time. I'll have to locate what I got and double check. I just remember them being in great quality, and I'm pretty sensitive to the low quality of lots of these outtakes.

Excellent description. It's a stone cold groove

"Chocolate" is a great song, but it should have appeared earlier. In 1990,it sounded really dated on the Time's Pandemonium album. It should have been on Ice Cream Castles.

I think this should have been the tracklisting for Ice Cream Castles

SIDE 1---

Ice Cream Castles

My Drawers

Do Yourself A Favor

SIDE 2---

Jungle Love

Chocolate

The Bird

I removed the filler track "Chili Sauce" and the silly slow jam "If The Kid Can't Make You Come" and replaced them with two superior tracks

Sounds great, glad you included Do Yourself a Favour, I love that song, and he is doing a whole lot better than he was before.

.

Then the line "Come here baby, come here, look at this, its a fifty dollar bill, when was the last time I had one of those" lol lol

"Do Yourself A Favor" is a superb song.Really wish it had been released on a Time album.I do like Jesse Johnson's solo version, though (from his 'Shockadelica' album).

Found my copy of Chocolate. It's pretty good sound quality. Not crystal clear, but damn good.

But Do Yourself A Favor isn't a Prince song, it's good but i'd sooner have an original
