Visiting Paisley Park

Has anyone just 'visited' Paisley Park Studios as a touristy, sight-seeing type of thing? I may be traveling to the MPLS area soon on business and would like to know what to expect if I were to have the opportunity to 'drop by'.

The doors will be locked. No one works there anymore, it's not a public studio. In fact, Prince now lives there with his private apartment in the very back corner.

That makes total sense. At the very least, I'd like to be able to just take a selfie with the building just to say I was there.

I drove from Fairbanks, Alaska to Minneapolis in October, over 3,000 miles. My first stop was Chanhassen, actually I got a little lost and ended up at Paisley Park inside the beltway. I was thinking "I thought Paisley Park was in one of the outer suburbs", and sure enough I was in the wrong place. After looking closer at Google maps, I located the studio. It was on the corner of a busy state highway, abd a local road. I was so excited seeing it in person. I parked at the school across the street, and nonchalantly strolled on the sidewalk and took a few pictures. There were two vehicles parked by the gate, and as I was leaving the vehicles drove off. The gate was wide open, and the thought of walking on in crossed my mind. I decided against it, didn't want to be on the news for trespassing. I was wishing there was a gift shop to buy some music, or some other place to pay respect. Anyway, it was a solitary experience, but worth the visit.

That's cool. I doubt that time will allow, but if it did, I'd like to see the place.

I was chased out of the parking lot back in 2003.

Would it be possible for one to get a picture from across the street?

Just try it. They can only refuse. I walked in at midday in July 93 and there was no security. It was P and the band that asked me kindly if I would leave.

The last time I was there was September 2006. Empty parking lot.... drove right in, parked, walked around, took a whole bunch of pictures, and no one came outside or said anything. It was a Sunday afternoon, so maybe that's why.

Absolutely, if not closer. It's not like there are guard towers and hounds ready to be released.

It's out in a very public area. The gates may or may not be open and since it's private property, it's probably best that you don't enter, but you can certainly get a good close look at it without being shooed off.

Why need a 'selfie' to say something?

Are your words that valueable?

You are but a tiny tiny speck in the universe so why waste millions of bits to just that purpose?

Please work on the trust others put in your words, next photography skills would also be a plus.

'Waste' is subjective, somebody may enjoy doing that. And since when is taking a 'selfie' a purpose in life. So how on earth is it wasting millions of 'bits'.

I wouldnt expect anything, but if you're gonna be in town anyway then take a few selfies first (just incase) then stroll over and bang on the door. Worst case is they ask you to leave. Best case Prince answers and asks you to leave.

If the gate is open, there's no harm in driving up and taking pictures. Anyone who works there realizes the place is a Mecca to his fans, so I'm sure they're used to people wanting to take pictures. Worst-case scenario is that someone asks you to leave. I doubt they'll even bother calling the cops on you for tresspassing if you respect their orders. It's not worth the hassle.

Time will be a factor. I have a 3:30 meeting the day I arrive and I'll be flying out the next day. My company is handling the flight arrangements, so who knows. You know - even after the meeting/reception, I could get a cab out there. Hmmm.....

I'd love to visit. I wonder what will happen to the building in the future..? I can see it becoming a regular office building, unless Prince tears it down in his old age as he's been prone to do in years past. It's got alot of history, given the number of artists who've worked there, and I'd like to see it retained but I can't see that happening. Who would come to a recording studio in the middle of nowhere without Prince being there?

It honestly isn't worth all that. lol

Hmm. Well..

If the weather is suitable, light is good, camera is worthy, you could make a few pics to capture the atmosphere around there.

Bring a stand, use a wider angle, etc.

Yes - that would be about it. I was there for the week of Xenophobia. Unfortunately, I miss part of the first day when they were actually giving tours until we were told some ridiculous and inconsiderate cunts stole something or misbehaved. As a result, tours of the offices and suites were cancelled. I really wanted to see those colorful rooms that Prine showed Oprah when she came for a visit.

haha omg i can't believe they actually made a pedal from Miku's voice

However even the Japanese would treat it like a novelty product (which is probably why it's cheap? I think it is anyway seen as Korg just gave them the pedals practically) seen as the actual Vocaloid software has features implemented within it to make the syllables cross into each other properly so they don't sound as robotic, upon other stuff.

I've always wanted to hear a Prince song covered with a Vocaloid, not Miku though, or any of the other Japanese releases, probably a VB from a native English speaker like Avanna or Oliver.

I'm showing my weeb too much. I just love this sort of shit lmao. I'll stop now.
